Description
I bought an ASUS X501A notebook and I was pleasantly surprised when a slimmer, lighter, faster ASUS X502C arrived yesterday.I took Windows 8 for a spin but honestly found it vile. I booted ElementaryOS Luna onto a pendrive and installed it ran updates and grabbed various apps I'll need for uni next year.
This is my setup;

I would like to install Linux but there is one big problem... Photoshop. I need this program everyday.

Most people scoff at this but I have been able to replace Photoshop CS5 completely with GIMP2.8. I have it set up with a single window mode and a dark theme and now it is my editing/painting programme of choice. There are more than capable alternatives to the windows solutions now. Also, you can always dual boot. My laptop is only running linux but my PC is running Linux and Windows 8.1. Windows has just become a games console for me. sta.sh/01by7goo1khd Normally I have it on a 24" screen instead of an 11" but I already have a screenshot from my laptop

Sorry dude but Gimp is not good alternative for PS. Dual boot is quite good option (ex. Arch linux + Win 7) but I have way to small HDD I should buy some external drive in the future.

That's one slick desktop man. I've heard good things about elementary, should try it some time. Also I wonder how well Gnome3 is doing these days.... last time I checked it was a mess. What do you think?
btw, did the Win8 come preinstalled? Cause you'd have done better with a laptop without win8 preinstalled since you were going to use linux anyways, as you also had to pay for the win8 license for OEMs (unless the price difference between this model and the one you wanted was enough to compensate).

You really should! I've been using it as my only OS for coming up to a year now if you include the betas... If I had to go to anything else I would definitely give Gnome3 a shot! Sure it needs some little tweaks but I think you could make it really good!
win8 did come installed. A licence costs around £70 and the laptop I ordered was £100 less than the one I was sent so I'm not complaining

Very nice- I especially like the icons. I have a very similar ASUS laptop (looks identical, a few different specs). eOS runs splendidly on these machines- I hope you're enjoying it.

I absolutely am! I was unsure about it at first because of the low price tag and it coming with Win8 but this is a little shire horse! It just keeps on going whatever I throw at it. Perfect for just music and word processing as I need it for.

My modification includes the UbuntuOne clean indicator and an icon for MyPaint and also leaves all the file manager icons as default.
I'm not sure if I'm allowed to post my changes but all credits for original parts to whoever made them.
Here's mine: sta.sh/0wcbu5jh7k7
To install unzip into ~/.icons and use elementary Tweaks to set
For tweaks and 3rd Party program elementary icons:
sudo apt-add-repository ppa:versable/elementary-update
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install elementary-tweaks
sudo apt-get install elementary-thirdparty-icons

I'm afraid I have no idea... The tutorial that listed a load of icon sets that I got it from has removed it from the list and when I searched around a little I couldn't find it either. It was called Blue though, that's all I can say really... I left the original AUTHORS and Copying files in the folder so you can have a look through them but I'm not sure where the original has gone. I ran the terminal command and it said it couldn't find the packages. They were 'elementary-blue-icons'

It is really nice! You can tell that it's made of plastic but I only spent £320 on it and for the hardware and the look, I'm not complaining.

An accident on their behalf, the models must have been next to each other in the warehouse and someone picked up the wrong one. An accident I was happy to keep to myself c:
