So grafts burn through certain kinds of clothes, basically is what I am getting at.

It's not certain types of clothes they can burn through. It's if they choose to burn through them or not. The grafts didn't know any better with their first transformation and just cooked off everything they were wearing. Later, they learned that their hosts valued certain articles of clothing so they instead try to slip under it if they're in a hurry. Though, the option to burn through them remains.
