Description
"Major Duncan Heyward - A young American colonist from the South who has risen to the rank of major in the English army. Courageous, well-meaning, and noble, Heyward often finds himself out of place in the forest, thwarted by his lack of knowledge about the frontier and Indian relations. Heyward's unfamiliarity with the land sometimes creates problems for Hawkeye, the dexterous woodsman and leader. "~[link]
I was intending to Illustrate the Last of the Mohicans, but it appears I've been beaten to it, though like many pre-exisitng Novels its somewhat lacking in integrity. Who knows, maybe i will do the Novel some day.
Keep an eye out for the rest of the main Protagonists.

Ah, Major Heyward, one of my favorites from the book alongside Cora, Uncas and Hawkeye. You have brought him to life very well and I can truly see the books Duncan in this. I have been (and still am) a big fan of Cooper's books and Last of the Mohicans is the best of those. When the film was released I was very keen to see it but it was a big disappointment to me. Like you have said here the movie was like a totally different story than the book. I especially disliked how they had to add and mix up the love stories and how they made Duncan to be such a jerk in that movie. So my point beeing to all who may watch this. Read the book. It's much much better.
I also looked those other character portrays you have made from the book. Very well illustrations. Especially the clothing.

Though I love the film of Last of the Mohicans, I do like how Duncan is a more sympathetic character in the book, and I think you captured that well here.
His pose really speaks to the way he often admitted his own lack of knowledge and deferred willingly to that of Hawkeye and the Mohicans (which we don't see so much in the film), but his facial expression shows the eagerness and determination to help in any way he could.
Wonderful job!

This is how i pictured him reading the book; I'd seen bits of the film when i was little, the massacre being prominent in my mind, but i'd forgotten it all when i read the book and having seen some of the film since, they're almost completely different stories.
There's a picture of Hawkeye and the general in my gallery if you haven't already seen them.
Thankyou very much for your comment, it's very much appreciated!!!

I love the new work! Your drawings really befit the novel (and history) quite well while still being modern in style. Great job, General!

I see I see, although I quite fancied him, just a shame about the whole 1776 incident. No hard feelings though, right?

Hmm ah can resolve that lil ol problem. He can hide with me down in New Orleans (N' Awlins). We'll make a fortune selling cotton and tobacco to you sweet lil ol Englishmen an perhaps a little sugah cane to whet your whistle, or some fine rum. You know, just a little somethin somethin on th' side.
An I'd have me a big ol mansion on th' river.
