Description Metamorphose was a precursor of Metamorphose II. Once I had Metamorphose I needed a negative volume imprint in order to add color by a kiln casting technique. This was accomplished by pouring a silicon-polymer over Metamorphose in a beaker, and allowed to polymerize. Once harden the a hole was cut out at the bottom for a future inlet. Then the cast removed from the beaker, cut open carefully with a box-cutter razor slit down the length of the cast, and the glass sculpture was carefully removed to get a negative spacial image! The silcon-polymer cast was taped closed to seal it. Now remember the hole cut at bottom of cast becomes an inlet for filling with melted bees wax. When the cast is filled to the top slowly, it's allowed to harden. When the wax has harden, the silicon-polymer cast is opened to give a wax positive spacial image of Metamorphose. With the polymer cast, this can be repeated many times for additional copies.

The next step is to make a negative spacial volume by pouring a plaster cast over it. Remember the hole we cut earlier in the poly-cast was for a spout opening. The plaster cast is allowed to harden over a week at room temperture. When harden the wax is removed completely with steam from a wall papper remover and allowed to dry out. You now have a plaster negative spacial volume cast of Metamorphose!

Now you can add color to Metamorphose by adding colored glass powder to the top of the cast. This is baked in a kiln and slowly cooles to anneal the glass. the plaster is slowly broken away.

The resulting image of Metamorphose II has fine wings to it because of flashing meaning leakage through fine cracks developing during the baking process.
