I know, I know, I should be working on the prizes for the Olympic contest...
I was just a little disappointed with the 8th page that I started working on the text for the 9th page right afterwards. Then I thought of a new way to align Blossom with the text, and after that, this page was all I could think of artistically for the last week. Though I did have a hard time thinking what Blossom could be saying and doing...until I realized this is the first time any arrows would point to something on her face, so I figured I'd "poke" fun at that.
Wow, is this page informative! To clarify the distance from the hairline to the centre of the eyes, 13mm is the typical distance I end up using when her head is tilted up or down, and I like 16mm when she's facing forward (since I always like to have the hairline curve, at least a little bit). Also, the side parts in her hair are usually right over the centre points of the eye circles, and all three "V" shapes are open-ended when she's facing forward at any angle.
Yay for four ellipses for limbs!
Okay, now I should work on those prizes...

Only Blossom could get ticklish from arrows pointing at her head.
What's funny is that I don't strictly adhere to these basics, but pretty much wing them every time, and almost always, they end up looking fine. Of course, it helps that I have ellipse stencils for the heads (and limbs if needed).

Yeah, I prefer the freehand method as well, but when I go back and measure what I drew that I liked, certain patterns emerge, and these will be the patterns I'll discuss throughout the tutorial.
