Description Another speedpaint! I tried to do a voiceover on this one, I hope my voice is comprehensible! www.youtube.com/watch?v=eBhRmD… (if you have any trouble understanding me just turn on captions)

I've been playing BotW a bit (not nearly close to being done with it though), and I thought the scenery looked really nice! I decided I had to draw something for it. Once I know more of the story I might do some more fanart for it.

As I said in the video, I've been trying to be more active on social media and draw more, but I may have to take a bit of a hiatus due to an upcoming surgery and the fact that I'm starting high school shortly after I return from said surgery (they made school start earlier this year! ) Hopefully my mom won't be working too much so I'll be able to use her laptop to draw. I'll still try and post doodles and such on my Instagram!

I don't really have much to say about the drawing itself since I pretty much covered everything I want to talk about in the video.

Very nice job! Beautiful lighting and use of landscape to direct the eye to the explosion.

Hello! I'm from here to give some constructive criticism.

When I look at this, it feels bright and cheery.   My eye is drawn to the strange tower (spire? I've never played Legend of Zelda) which seems to be the only dark and brooding part of the whole painting. Overall, the impression you bring to me is a sense of an end of a journey. Or perhaps, more accurately, the beginning of the end of a journey? The final epic battle awaiting?

There is a distinct warm glow to the picture: the grass with its tints of yellow, the sky with dashes of orange-brown. Even the dark tower has dabs of orange that gives it a flow to the theme. I often see these colors at the end of the day at evening before the sun makes the hills its grave, or when the sun renews the day with it's basking glow.

You did a great job on the lighting as stated below. It's bright, but not so bright that it blinds me. The gray-blue mountains on either side did well to balance that out, although, it's just breaking on being too bright.

I believe what makes this painting unique and beautiful are the tiny details that you added in. I looked closer and I could see the little red mushrooms heads, the individual grass strokes, a stray tree here and there in the background.
Now, the one thing that stuck out to me that I didn't particularly like was how uniform the trees looked. In the second section of the painting where the tree grove is, they look like they were brick-laid there. What else contributed to their "brick-laid" look was how the trees were all the same general size. It's the same with all the other major tree areas in the painting. It takes away reality from the painting.

All in all, for a speedpaint, I say this is quite impressive! I don't need to tell you to keep up the good work because I have a feeling that you will whether I say so or not, so I'll just say Godspeed.

Hello there from ProjectComment !

I was scrolling through the recommendations when I saw this, it inmediately caught my attention and I knew it was going to be good before I even clicked it
Where do I even start?

Overall composition: Very good!
I love the out in the open feeling this piece gives to me, I can tell you divided the scene in four sections, the very foreground (the small grass at the bottom) the hill/cliff the character is standing on, the forest at the foot of the mountains, the grassfield leading to the castle and the horizon, and the rest of the mountains along with the sky far away.
The landscape looks complete and full of life, perfect for concept art I can't see anything off, in fact, thanks to that small chunk of grass at the bottom it looks like we're watching the whole scene from the eyes of another character, like we're actually there.
The only thing I think needs some work is the castle, it kinda looks tilted to the front, I don't know if it's just me but I think it should be seen less from above since it looks like it's standing on the top of a hill, and it creates a small contrast between the castle and the mountains behind it.
Aside from that, the two focus points (Link and the castle) are well placed.

Lightning and color: Amazing!

You absolutely nailed it on this aspect, I seriously can't find anything wrong with it, the colors are bright and vibrant, I love the ones you chose for the grass that the trees, and the way the shadows are blended in get the job done wonderfully, they're all well defined, especially the shadows from the mountains and the character.
I'm also very fond of how you made the sky at the horizon, a baby blue tone mixed some khaki to give the impression that the day is close to ending.

Details: Very good!
Sometimes people forget a lot of details whenever drawing a landscape because it's so open and they don't really know what is supposed to be on an open field, but you definitely don't have that problem, nothing in the scene seems empty, the mountains along with the forest and the hill at the foreground make the landscape look alive enough, but you still went ahead and added more details to the field in the distance such as rock and trees as well as some extra hills to make it less bland.
The grass as well as the trees have a lot of definition on them and I like how you added some extra foliage to the mountains.
Still, the castle once again draws my attention with those red and black clouds, they look off because they're so defined and nitid compared to the rest of the stuff near them (because everything in the distance seems to get less and less details the further we go).

Conclusion:
This deviation is amazing, while there were one or two things that threw me off at some points, they did not make question the quality of the piece one bit, I've never played any Zelda games but your drawings sure makes me want to! Keep up the good work!

Have a nice day

I think you went a little to high with saturation and brightnes in this one, it hurts my eyes when i look at it, other then that it's very lovely

Thanks! I actually agree with you on that. I usually keep my computer's brightness low since it sometimes hurts my eyes, so the colors might not have turned out the way I thought when I had it low. Now that I have it turned up I see what you mean!

Hi from ProjectComment You've got a really nice use of composition in this piece - everything leads the eye towards the castle in the distance.

Things to keep in mind next time might be your perspective. The walls surrounding the castle seem tilted down (so the viewer can see in them) a bit too much.

The shadows on the hill in the foreground (that the figure is standing on) are really nice, if you could carry this through into your other shadows I think the whole piece would improve dramatically as a lot of the other shadows feel very muddy, as if you've used black or grey to shade with. This could possibly be a matter of values - your forests at the base of the mountains for example aren't a focal point and are further away than your figure and foreground focal point, therefore I would suggest using a lighter value/not using such dark shadows.

Other than that, your colours and use of light is really nice and how you've painted the grass in works really well! Keep up the good work

Thank you very much!!

Yeah, I tend to struggle with perspective, and it's something I definitely want to get better at. While I was drawing it I noticed the muddy colors too, but didn't know how to make them look better without making them really saturated.

His this is a very constructive piece. How much time did it take you to draw all of this? The trees and side of the mountain look very time consuming. But out of everything. The landscape at the far back looks very interesting and creative. It kind of seem like you changed styles or tools to make it. What is it exactly? I'm not a huge Zelda fan, but I would be lying if I said that place in the far back didn't seem interesting and cool.

Thank you so much! It took around 11 hours!

The thing in the far back is Hyrule Castle, if I remember correctly. I'm not a huge Zelda fan either, this is the first one I've played and I'm not very far in it, but to my knowledge that's where the antagonist of the game is located.
