Edit 11/21: Color and saturation fixes.
This was originally a doodle that I was going to use as a cameo request but then it turned into a full blown painting somehow, oops. Love my Audino girl too much. <33
99% of this is painted over the sketch and base colors. WIP is on tumblr for a reference: [link] I'm pretty happy with it!

Hmmm well I think the shading is like too "grey"? I don't know how to explain it, like go a little around in your colour wheel. For example if you're trying to shade yellow, you'd go into red (I know there isn't really any yellow in there, but it's the easiest example to explain)
I also found Cune's comment on Weasyl very constructive; right now my eyes are as much fixated on your character as the roses, so play around with hierarchy maybe c:

Do you maybe mean that the rest of it isn't saturated enough? I'm not sure what you mean by it looking grey as far as the color choices. In my process I didn't shade the colors separately when I was picking them. I did all the basic shadows as blue, multiplied that, put an overlay of some brighter colors over it, then painted over it by color dropping from the previous layers, and then put a yellow-y overlay over the entire thing when I was done cause I wanted it to look more sunny instead of blueish. If you color drop it in certain color sections there are a lot of colors within a pretty big range.
After messing with it for a bit though it does look better more saturated and I toned the yellow overlay down a bit so the blues show through more. I was trying not to make it too bright cause I was going more for a pastel look, but I might've toned it down too much and it started to get a little muddy in some places. I noticed that I was correcting certain areas after I was done painting it to add more of a harsh line to define it from the color next to it.
Sorry if this wasn't what you meant and I'm just here rambling. LOL But it helped if anything? haha.

Out of curiosity, because I didn't realize you were shading on a different layer with layer styles, do you do that on every picture or do you sometimes manually search for a shade tone?

And I always use layer styles; it makes my life 10x easier and makes the coloring process quicker. I could pick them all out individually if I wanted to, but it would be much more time consuming and less flexible to edit later to get the same effect.

Yeah, that one's on one layer aside from one multiply to fix a small shadow and a dark airbrush overlay to make a border. These have only normal layers: [link] [link]
Like 99% of what I do uses the layer functions though. It's easier, quicker, helps my learning of how colors work together better, and lets me experiment more. :3

Aaah I see! Well, then I won't say more haha! Experimenting all sorts of things is always good and fun though but I still believe you need to have fun in what you're doing overall <3
