Taken in the Austrian Hospice, 3rd floor, 37 Via Dolorosa, Near Damascus Gate, Jerusalem, Israel
This large building, located in the Muslim Quarter between the Damascus and Lions' Gates, was built in 1857 and served as a hospital from 1948 to 1985.
In recent years it was restored to its original use as a hostel for pilgrims and visitors to Jerusalem. Beautifully managed and renovated, the Austrian Hospice's gardens, terraces, fabulous rooftop vistas of the Old City

This is beautiful photograph! I love the fish- eye effect mixed with that shade of green because it gives it that surreal feel that life really is.
I also like how the set looks like a hospital, the place where we are born and the place where we assumedly pass on. A nice circle of life and a subtle reference on your part. Great job!

the fisheye perspective works out really well for this shot. i can't wait to get mine. the poem/text that you wrote suits it really well too, specially with the checkered floors. makes me think of my new deviation that i'm working on

I like to look at this photo thinking that I'm the opposing king and the person in the photo is the rook, hence the title. I know it doesn't make any sense that a single rook can checkmate the king and I know how the different is otherwise. However I like the idea it gave me that perhaps with another person symbolize another chess piece to check mate the king (the viewer), just the artistry side of it.

Awesome picture, awesome poem. Do you start with the idea, and then take a picture that fits it, or do you start with a picture you've taken, and come up with the idea afterwards? I can relate to your poem, though not as good as I can to most of your other ones. But that's only because in my own game of chess, I just sort of walk right past everyone, and no one ever notices. I would consider it cheating, but how can it be cheating when it's the only way you know how to play?

Well, the idea comes while taking the photo, it effects the way I take it. It is one of my rules for creative photography.

I really loved the photgraph... A tinge of an abnormal or strange sight is like a key to my heart. Although, I lost a little interest after reading the poem... I'm a poet myself, so I tend to be a critic in that sort of catagory (blame my poety slam club teacher...) I saw a couple of gramatical errors, as in "the this" and (as it was being used) "looser", but I tend to see dumb mistakes after rereading some of my own poetic entries myself ^^' Also, with the included poem, I feel there was a little too much repitition for it to blossom. It may just be my personal taste speaking, so I hope you'll take my criticism with a grain of salt if offending. I sure hope to see more photos in the future, so keep up the good work... and try not to break your camera (or yourself) with complicated or dangerous shots... A camera is much so expensive to replace, but thine own body dos't have no equal.
