Description
Bruak stopped cold and smirked, his eyes still closed, resisting the urge to chuckle. The timing was like something out of a movie. But he would not be defeated so easily, he wouldn’t let his prey out of his clutches when he was so close. “Used yer credit card, right? It’s all paid up?” James nodded breathlessly. Bruak turned to the door and shouted, “Leave it by the door, please!”“I need a signature,” the delivery boy replied curtly.
James sighed, “And a tip, he means.” He kissed the orc again before sliding from underneath and walking shakily toward the door. He signed the receipt, unaware of the shadow creeping up behind him. He saw the delivery boy’s eyes go wide as he closed the door, just before the orcs thick arms surrounded him from behind, taking the pizzas and placing them on the counter. He then swept the human up into his embrace, smirking as he hoisted him off his feet in a tight hug.
“Takes a good heart to pull himself away from all that just t’ give a delivery guy a tip,” he said with a smile, gently kissing James once more. It wasn’t as passionate or intense as before, but it was very affectionate. Perhaps the carnal moment had passed.
James lamented internally, but he couldn’t lose heart--he’d have more chances with the man of his dreams. Bruak gently set him down and ambled toward the pizza, grabbing the box and sitting down at the table. James quickly grabbed two slices and a diet soda from the fridge before joining his new friend, though his head was still spinning from what had just transpired.
“I, uh, hope that wasn’t too much for ya...” Bruak muttered, wrecking James’ train of thought. “Didn’t mean to force myself on ya like that. That stuff y’gave me musta gone to my head or somethin’. I mean, we just met and I--”
“N-no! Please, I mean it.” James blushed as he took a bite. “I mean, you’re absolutely right. That was what I wanted...”
Bruak smiled, taking two slices and folding them together, eating the whole thing in three bites. “Good... I was worried I was too forceful. I ain’t never made the first move on a human before, I didn’t want to put ya off.”
“I doubt you could, big guy,” he added with a shy smile.
The orc’s chest puffed up a bit at that. “Ain’t I just the luckiest greenskin ever. Lose my job, get kicked outta my place, and fall right into the lap of the sweetest human I ever met.”
James’ heart fluttered. He hadn’t blown it quite yet, afterall. “So wait, you lost your job?” he asked, trying to sound sympathetic but coming off more curious than anything.
“Yup, seems that way,” he said, looking down towards his pizza.
“That’s why you couldn’t pay rent, yeah?”
“Mmhm.”
“Well… what happened?”
“Got fired,” he sighed, face turning a bit red. He glanced at James, whose shocked expression demanded more explanation. “Wouldn’t let the boss fuck me anymore.”
James short-circuited for a moment--there was a lot wrong with that sentence. “W-what now?”
“It’s a long story but... well, my boss was this scummy little fat human prick. He was going to fire me, but he offered this deal that in return for keeping my job, I’d have to let him ‘fuck’ me every so often. I had to keep that stupid job, so he had me over a barrel.” Bruak saw James’ eyes widen. “It really wasn’t that bad, though... to tell you the truth, he was too small to even get inside me,” he laughed mockingly, shaking his head. “He just liked feelin’ like he was powerful or somethin’. “M’sure he had huge insecurity problems.”
Bruak sighed, face still blushing. “But it got so bad that he demanded to fuck me during the breedin’ moon, and that was the line for me.”
James simply blinked dumbly.
The orc rolled his eyes a little, “I was hopin’ they taught y’all this shit in school... You know we ain’t got women like you do, right? Instead we have this period twice a year. If ya have sex with an orc during this timeframe, he’ll get pregnant. Even if it’s a human doin’ it. Basically this fucker wanted me to have his cubs.” Bruak swallowed the last of his first pizza. “I refused, and that was the end of our deal. Got fired that day.”
James shook his head. “Surely that’s illegal! Why not fight it?”
Bruak sighed, grabbing the second pizza box and going to town on the cheesy contents within. “Because I’d have t’hire a shitty lawyer and probly lose the case anyway... I can’t even put a roof over my head right now, man.”
“That... really sucks,” James muttered, not knowing a better way to say it.
“Eh, that’s life. I’ve seen worse things happen. Don’t worry about me, kid, I’ll get by. I always do. Plus, I don’t like complainin’, so you tell me somethin’. What’s yer job like, moneybags?”
James blushed, but he was glad to change the subject. “Uh, well, I work as a fund manager.”
“Wussat?” Bruak asked, his brow furrowed as he chewed his pizza.
“Well… uh, basically, I help figure out how to best allocate a mutual fund’s investment.”
The continued furrowed brow and silent chewing indicated that Bruak knew a few of those words.
“I… uh… help people figure out where to invest their money.” A gross oversimplification, but he didn’t want to make Bruak feel dumb.
“Oh, y’mean like stocks and stuff?” the orc asked, his mouth full.
“Yeah! I mean, well, sometimes. Normally, they’re bundled into other equity funds or indexes. There’s also various types of bonds, including long-term high-yield bonds and short-term but very liquid bonds, and…” James trailed off, stopping himself before he got too technical again.
“…And?” Bruak asked, genuinely curious.
“I-I don’t wanna bore you. Kind of a stupid topic...” he offered weakly, looking for a reason to change the subject.
“Nah, not really. My uncle taught me about stocks. Little pieces of a company, and when you buy them you own a little part of the company. And the price goes up or down depending on what everyone thinks the company is worth, right?” The orc wiped his chin with his bare arm. “That’s what he said, anyway… he even gave me a portfolio for my birthday one year. Last I checked it was up to something like thirty thousand dollars.”
“Wow, I’m impressed! That’s quite good amount. Why not sell some of it to get somewhere to stay? Or a lawyer?”
“Because he told me to not use it on anything unless it was really important,” He said simply, devouring slice after slice.
“Who told you? Your uncle?”
“Yeah. He left me a lot. A whole lot more than that, even. But he made me promise not to use any of it just to solve my problems, otherwise I’d end up lazy and poor.”
“Well, I’ve seen that happen a lot, for sure, so I guess he knows what he’s talking about.”
“Yeah. He said to me, ‘Only use it if you find something that’s truly important to ya. Worst case, you’ve got a comfortable retirement when you’re old like me.’ So, I ain’t old yet, and I don’t consider gettin’ back at that doughy fucker too important, so that’s that, as far as I’m concerned.”
“Well, that’s good advice, for sure.” James paused, running out of things to say. “Your uncle was a smart orc.”
Bruak smiled warmly. “Yeah, he was a great guy. Really great... If I was half the orc he was, I’d die happy.”
After an awkward silence, Bruak slapped his knees suddenly. “Welp,” he said, gathering up his empty boxes. “I really appreciate the dinner, bub. I should probably get outta yer hair though.”
“W-wait, what?” James fumbled over his words as Bruak stood up and took his trash to the kitchen. Talking about so many sensitive subjects seemed to have knocked him out of his good mood. “Y-you can’t go!”
“And why’s that?” the orc turned to him, smirking.
James panicked, following after him. “I mean... you still want to leave? Why not just, uh, y’know, spend the night here?”
Bruak chuckled curtly, heading to get his duffel bag. “Yer sweet as can be, kid, but I told ya once already, I just don’t like burdenin’ anyone.”
“I don’t mean it like that...!” James grabbed the orc’s enormous hand tightly, being dragged a few steps by the overpowering giant. “I... it’s just that I... y’know... I know we just met but... I feel like... y’know, you and I...”
Bruak turned and sighed with a smile, “You really want me to stay, huh?”
James nodded, his eyes locked with the orc’s. “It’s not a handout or nothin’ I just really, y’know, want to get to know you more... and...”
Bruak placed his enormous hand on James’ head. “Okay, okay, twist my arm. I’ll stay... but just for tonight.” Bruak leaned down to give him a soft kiss. “Only ‘cause I want to.”
