Description This is the first weekend I've stayed home in quite a while on my new sober binge. After the very long Kate Beckinsale drawing, I didn't want to dive right into another long portrait. So I decided to do a still life drawing. I love drawing metal so I chose to draw a zippo lighter. I may do another still life drawing tonight before I start my portrait of on Sunday.

Love it, you really inspired me to try something other than digital art.. I've always figured that ditial art was the only art I could enjoy, paintings and drawings were just plain and old... YOurs however are so different.... they are just jaw dropping-ly amazing... I have no idea how the shading and texture your achive is achieved... you really should wright a tutorial, and do some step by steps on how you make things like this, unless of course as an artist you don't reveal your secrets .

Anyways, you really should consider doing this as a full time job, you are honestly, without a doubt, the best artist I have ever seen, and I mean it!

First of all, thank you very much. That's quite a comment to fit into my big head Drawing is very exciting still, it's not old at all. I've been drawing for quite a while now and I could never imagine growing tired of doing it. I really think I will be drawing the rest of my life. Not as a career but just as a hobby. If I get some commission work along the way, I'd be glad to do it but I'm not really in it for the money right now. I have actually written a couple of tutorials. I have them on my website. I thought about posting them here but I like to keep my DA page strictly drawings. I hate when I visit someone else's page and they have tons of different mediums all mixed together and you don't know what is what.

Thank you for the comment but you will eat your words if you visit some of the people that I watch. I am defenitely far from the best pencil artist on this site. Check out once...all pencil drawings.

I really love this one. You really do keep getting better and better at what you do with every submission. I love this one cause it's so simple but when you look at it, you can tell where you've put in all your hard work to get it right. I've seen so many hand drawn portraits on dA, it's nice to see a nice minimalistic still life for once and this is it.

It's great

can you draw leather as well as you draw metal? im impressed

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

golfiscool In reply to cockney-bean [2006-02-19 17:17:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I'm sure leather wouldn't be a problem. Just a little rougher texture and the highlights aren't as brilliant. They are more diffuse. Any texture is really easy if you just study it and figure out what makes it unique.

nice, may i ask, did you teach yuorself or have you got help. ive had to teach myself the whole 15 years ive been alove (lol), so.. sometimes i find it tough to carry on when everyone else around me gets help..jsut curious

Everything I know about drawing, I've learned for myself. I have never had any classes or anything. I think it's much more rewarding to learn it this way than to have someone teach me.
