Description
What a worldSo sexualized a woman cannot breastfeed
Without being oggled for her breasts
What a place
So objectifying a bottle of water is shaped like a woman
To sell a product poisoned by its container
What a home
So unfriendly a beautiful Muslim woman is called a terrorist
Though we say no one should feel hated
No one cares about anyone else anymore
And it's time for that to change
I'm picking up the pieces of the broken hearts
Trying to find a way to put them back together
Everyone is hurting
Though no one yet sees
The dangers of the way we live
Both here and overseas
No one is right but no one will admit he or she is wrong
Everyone is too afraid to be different
To stand out
To not belong
No one wants to be victimized
No one wants to be weak
But nothing will change if no one tries
No one will hear if no one will speak
But I will speak up, now, and always
They look at me as an object
Because I am female
They oggle my breasts, they examine my waist
Heaven forbid I be overweight
I am not a product, I am not a machine!
I am woman, and I am me!
I am a human being, and I have a name
I have life and rights and my vote counts just as much.
My ex once tried to tell me that women are less rational
Are more emotional, are weaker, are meant to be submissive
Just because we have PMS, and acknowledge it.
Though I outspoke him, outwrote him, and outlogicked him
Time, and time again
But no one wants to be wrong
I am woman, and I can be sexual
Seduction is a power I use when I want
But that is not an excuse for men to exploit me
I once took a picture, to raise awareness of gays in the military
I received comments about my body only
Not about the political themes
Creepy people I'd never met, who felt the need
There is something wrong there,
and I am speaking out.
Woman has her voice
and woman is not happy
I make less money for doing the same work as a man
I have to work harder than a man to get the same job
I am the victim of double standards and discrimination
And now that this is finally changing,
the men react.
I heard a poem declaimed once
It was titled "Subtle Sister"
And this woman, so angry, was told to be quiet
To be docile, and meek
She refused
She said the C word, and dropped F bombs
and men objected, because it wasn't ladylike.
I'm tired of ladylike.
I want to make people angry, make people see
That there is discrimination against being me
They don't like outspoken women, bold, brash, and real
They want me to be barefooted in a kitchen, keep an even keel
How much stronger am I than a man!
I am not afraid of emotion
I can give birth, and survive to become stronger
Women are capable of so much
Man had nothing to do with Jesus
God and a woman produced that perfection
But still, I cannot serve office in my Church
Because my Savior had a penis
Well, now.
I must not understand, because I'm a woman
That's what they tell me.
I misunderstand.
Of course I did, I must be PMSing
I must be having a blonde moment
because i'm female, I must be wrong
Because a man told me so.
I disagree.
Men invented weapons, invented pain
The serpent who tempted Eve was male
But now, sisters, we must guide our men back
For they are not so unreachable yet
They can still be taught, if only they would open their minds.

There are many kindred Spirits out here Kiki, and not all of them are Women, and certainly, not all of them are as ignorant as some who have responded to you here.
I wish you a day of peace, and of light, and of joyous energy. Thank you for your wonderful piece.
NAMASTE,
Eric

Um... I'm not sure i apporve of this piece. Usually when you post stuff (& to be honest i miss some of the photos you used to post... the photos of everyday things mostly), i dont feel the need to post a comment. This one made me feel the need to tell you that you are wrong. I'm not trying to diminish your feelings, but a lot of what your saying is nonsense.
For instance your breast feeding coments. If any one whips out a sexual organ, no matter what its other function, one is always going to appreciate it as a sexual object. If a woman sees a man whip out his member to urinate on something & its of impressive enough propotions i promise you they'll look at it. The only diffence is they probably wont get caught looking.
As for your statement about your gay military photos, i dont recall seeing them but let me say now "you cannot photograph a political theme."
As someone whose heard Alix Olsons Subtle Sister poem, i can say it is unladylike, it also unpersonlike. Her poems are essentially the rantings of an insane angry person who has a tendency to utilize counter sexism by lumping all men into one category, while yelling at them for doing exactly the same to her personal minority group.
As for the stuff about the church, all i can say is why would anyone judge someone else on the concept that a fictional character had a penis or not. Its like saying "oh noes, i can do this thing because Harry Potter was male." Sooner Americans get over there "christian nation" stage the better.
Lastly & most offensively (actually the only part i found offensive at all) was the line "But now, sisters, we must guide our men back." In the previous paragraph you rail against a male messiah, but almost straight away try and replace the concept with a female messiah/shepard who is superior by being without a penis.
Okay i've had my say, i hope you take what i said with the intention with which it was written. Hope to see more from you soon.

breasts are only hypersexualized because society has made that happen. There are many, many cultures where female toplessness is as eyebrow-raising as male toplessness is here. Also, my point was that there is nothing sexual about feeding a child, but because this society makes breasts hypersexual, that's' where the problem is.
Your opinions on religion are your own, but I am Catholic, so please respect that. I never tried to replace any image, actually, I was just pointing out the flaws in the argument against female priesthood.
And the line "Now, sisters, we must guide our men back" is because you can't complain about a problem if you aren't willing to do something about it. I see sexism as a modern problem
I don't mean this against you personally, and I appreciate your honesty because we can't get anywhere in life without it. However, you're a man, so you really don't understand what it's like to be female. You don't know how insulting it is to see how objectified women are, and frankly, it pisses people off. Alix Olson is only seen as crazy because she's angry. People called Malcolm X and Martin Luther King, Jr. crazy. NOw, I'm not saying she's the same as they are or anything like that, just providing a basis of comparison.

Ok, breasts aren't hypersexualized. Sure they are sexualized, but for them to be hyper sexualized they would have to of taken on mystical magical sex powers, disportionate to there sexual usage. Also in the cultures where toplessness is common, there is little to no use of breasts in sex... So as far i see it, theres your trade-off. Luckily we dont live in those cultures, so its ok to sexualise the breast.
As for the Catholic thing, i'd like to be able to respect it, but i actually dont hold respect for any religion (Its the whole believing a thing & then living by its tenants without evidence for its truth, thing that gets me. Especially when there are so many unforgivable things in the king james bible).
& lastly the logic behind "Now, sisters, we must guide our men back," shows up again when you say, "you're a man, so you really don't understand what it's like to be female." This is true but i am a human being, so i do understand what its like to be human. Just because i am not a thing does not mean i can't imagine what its like to be a thing. In fact thats the whole basis of empathy.
Its a common feminist trend for women to try and fix men & take no responsibility for there side of things, which was why i was offended by "Now, sisters, we must guide our men back." One can only alter there own action, you cannot alter someone elses, especially the way that feminist try to (by shaming men into acting a particular way). If these womens groups spent more time altering there own behaviour & stopped blmaing men for all there percieved problems they would find actual equality a lot faster.

It doesn't matter what your beliefs are, it's who I am. So, if you can't be respectful of other people, then I'm just going to ask you to keep your opinions to yourself. I don't have to let people comment on my art.
Also, "there" is used as in "over there". The word you want is "their", the possessive term.
If men weren't assholes, women wouldn't be bitches. If women weren't bitches, men wouldn't be assholes. It's gotta stop somewhere.
