I told them I wanted to wait for marriageAnd they called me a prude

I told them I wanted to drink and to swear
And they called me a brat
I told society to live a better life
And they handed me my suitcase and my hat
I showed up to graduation in pants
And they tried to withold my cap and gown

but ashes, ashes, we all fall down
I told them I wanted to wave a rainbow flag
And they asked me what was wrong with white
I told them it just wasn't enough anymore
And they wouldn't let it go without a fight
They like me when I look like them
When I talk like them
When I act
But I'm not like them, perfect stanzas
I am freeverse, and that's a fact
I am a changeling and a wretch
I am the last thing my parents wanted
I am LGBTQ defined
And I am who I am, no matter what comes
I will shake this world
No matter what they say
They don't care to find out who I am
The girl behind the pants
The girl behind the short hair
The girl behind the chain wallet
They call me a dyke, they call me immoral
They call me weak, they call me wrong, they call me stupid
They call me all sorts of names that don't fit
That never fit
That never will
And they expect me to just swallow the swill
And I stand here
Shouting my frustration
Venting my anger
And they call me an angry lesbian
Without knowing that isn't me at all
What they don't bother to find out
Is that I do love my boyfriend
As I loved my ex girlfriend
They don't know that I go to Church
Because I do believe in it
They don't know
They just don't know
And yet, they judge.

We as a people accept things differently, or we choose to not accept them at all. Either way isn't an expression of hatred for someone just because they choose to be different. I wasn't raised with any special views about people and their choices in life or the color of their skin. I have my beliefs, and they can be different then yours, doesn't mean I don't accept you as a human being. I do not judge for your choices, we all make choices and must live by those choices.
