Description Deep in the pacific Northwest there is a little town of Dunwhick Oregan, a pleasant little community built on the banks of the Dunwhick river from which the town gets it's name. Standing on the east sideof the river is the Scudmoore lumber company the main employer of the town's populace. Way on the other side of town stands the towns other notable structure, Skudmoore manor.
in 1850 Abner Scudmoore came west from his birthplace Arkham Massachusetts to make his fortune. he founded a sawmill and began to supply timbers to the mining industry in California, later he provided lumber to the union during the civil war and after the war to reconsruct the nation railroads. Abner had a uncanny business sense, some claimed it was almost supernatural. he could predict what was the next opportunity to invest in. By 1870 he had expanded into shipbuilding, shipping companies. mining and railroads. He was also very generous to the people of Dunwhick building schools libraries and a hospital.
In 1885 Abner went on a trip back to Arkham and when he returned, he had new bride. Lydia Whatley and the two of them set about to build a grand house. Craftsmen were brought in to construct the mansion. from fine Vermont Granit to most expensive wood the mansion soon began to rise. By 1888 the mansion was finished. 40 rooms with the latest conveniences, indoor plumbing, the new electrical lights with power provided by a steam generated powerplant, and telephones. The manor was the marvel of the region.
The Skudmoores had everything except children. Lydia had suffered two miscarriages and as time went on it looked to everyone in Dunwhick that the Skudmoores would live out theit lives childless. But in 1900 Abner and Lydia went on a trip abroad. when they returned, they had with them a child! A girl they named Amythist after her violet-colored eyes. she had snow white hair and a charming smile. she was only 11 months old but she was as tall as a 3-year-old. By the time she was 10 years old she was already 5 ft. tall. She was smart and quick witted and very pretty.
it was the winter of 1913 that tragedy struck Skudmoore manor. On a dark night a snowstorm swept in from the north. When the dawn broke the ground was covered in deep snow drifts. The night before the skudmoore's had asked their servants to stay in town that night. When they returned the next day, they found the front doors burst in, hinges broken and the house a shambes but when they went up to the master bedroom, they beheld a scene of horror! the walls were splattered with blood and the torn remains of Abner and Lydia were found on the blood drenched bed! Amythist was missing, a search was made, and she was found locked in a shed behind the manor, there was a strange amulet hung on the door handle, Inside the child was found cowering and in shock!
She was rushed to the hospital, when she was better, she told of how her father had wakened her sometime before midnight. "he said to hurry," she said "that he was going to have visitors, visitors to who he owed a debt to and didn't want them to get her!" He locked her in the shed and placed the amulet on the door saying to her "This will protect you my dearest, please remember your mother and I and know we both love you!"
the authorities investigated but all leads went cold. a week later relatives from back east and took custody of Amythist and in accordance with Abner's the estate would go to Amythist and in until she was at least 21. Until then the mansion was to be maintained for her return and her business affairs run by the attorneys.
so skudmoore Manor was put back in order. in 1939 A beautiful and very tall woman with violet eyes and snow-white hair arrived in Dunwhick train station, with her was a small creepy little man she said was her servant Gothold and a owl perched her shoulder. Amythist Skudmoore had returned. She claimed her inheritance. she took up residence at the Manor and has lived ther ever since, she is very reclusive and raley leaves the manor except on business. the residence of Dunwhick know her well and can swear she hasn't aged a day since she came home and strangely it dosen't bother them in the least.
