Description This is a picture taken in the garden at my home. I don't know what possessed me to take the shot in black and white considering how goregous most of the flowers are in color but I am very glad I did. It has a very sophisticated look to it in black and white that I really like.

It was a big surprise...funny how the accidents sometimes come out perfectly while the shot you spend forever lining up looks like crap.

I know...I can't get over how it just turned out so dynamic...the subject looked so plain when I took the picture and I took the shot just to finish out a roll of film. Odd how sometimes the least planning creates the best photograph. Thanks for the fav.

yeah, i like how the grays in the flower make it look sorta two dimensional, giving it a strange notion to hinge off of: the back and forth of knowing it's three dimensional by recognizing the flower compared to it in the mind, and the two dimensional feeling of the flower's contour. i'm not so sure this would be as prevalent if the shot were in color, which is good then that you got it in black and white. good duality of feeling wih this one!

Having such a deep dark background doesn't hurt for getting that effect, nor does the fact I shot it almost completely from above. That limts the amount of depth one can see in the image. This one always jumps out at me when I flip through the flower section of my photo books so I figured it was about time to post it.
