Taringa are willing to remove art. DMCA notice is needed. I added two links on my journal.

A lot of art has been removed but there is still more. I like to share my art as long as it links back to me and not to them! It is polite to ask!

Yes, taringa.net has stolen my works, and many others from DA.

Check this journal from fraterchaos [link] for some info on how to block inline linking right from your DA submission:

"On the submissions page there is a place right below the "Allow Comments" option that says "Sharing Options"

if you click "edit" at the end of that line, you can choose whether you want your work to be available for sharing or not. If you choose
"Discourage and Viewable Only for deviantART Members" it will then only be available on deviantArt, and only to those who HAVE an account, and cannot be linked off site.

It seems deviantArt doesn't make this more evident because they want sharing, so its a little hard to find.

You can change this by editing existing works and changing the setting, as well as setting it when you first submit your work.

I do wish that somebody had informed me of this sooner, and I'm a little POed at the dA admins... I sent messages to them suggesting adding a check box to disable sharing, and none of them saw fit to mention that it already exists!!!!

So, it may be a really good idea that if you want dA to add some feature, or change something, you should double check that its not already there, as the staff feels no obligation to inform you if you suggest something that already exists but is fairly well hidden.

Please, if you know ANYONE who has expressed a desire to block inline linking, make sure they are made aware of this option and how to find it, believe me, if you don't know to look, you probably won't even notice its there!"

And thanks for the Firefox plug-in link!

The images are NOT linked. They have just downloaded them. That is why they do NOT link to your DA page. The thieves have a DA account and just steal art.

GrahamSym In reply to ArtisticLicenseNow [2012-02-26 07:13:58 +0000 UTC]

You don't need a big image to post on a web page, I don't think there, is anything you can do to stop people doing this, apart from not posting work. I am furious.

ArtisticLicenseNow In reply to GrahamSym [2012-02-26 18:06:58 +0000 UTC]

you're right, some web designers 'shop' at deviantart all the time even for bits and pieces of designs/art...it seems to have gotten a lot worse in the last 5 years, some ppl collect DA art and sell it on collections on CDs at auction sites, some print art on small products and sell them around the world. Makes me want to go back to painting pics!

They did not link, they copied images from DA. They might have a DA account.

mario837 In reply to GrahamSym [2012-02-25 21:12:26 +0000 UTC]

Not necessary at all Graham. If you have allowed the download (default when you submit a work) you are allowing anyone to download the original size file which will appear in a new window. Then you can save this windows with "Save image as" option. I downloaded this from my wife's laptop silver_machine_by_grahamsym-d4q5m4g.jpg at 3000x2000 resolution

well geez, now I feel all depressed again... they didn't bother to steal anything of mine!

But christ, they sure did go all out in ripping dA artists, didn't they? Seems like they have stuff from nearly every fractal artist worth viewing.

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

eon-krate32 In reply to fraterchaos [2012-02-26 09:24:36 +0000 UTC]

Certainly seems like it. They took no less than 10 images from me, and I recognized many of the others that had been ripped as well.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

fraterchaos In reply to eon-krate32 [2012-02-26 16:37:16 +0000 UTC]

yeah I know... I just wish these people would stop... I mean there are websites (including dA) that have tons of stuff that says right on it "free to use" so why do they have to take stuff that belongs to someone?

That's why I started adding the borders that say "copyright Charles Kunkle Jr. aka fraterchaos, this work must not be copied or linked without permission, if you see this on any site besides deviantArt.com or Shadowness.com, it is stolen" that way, if they link to it, it says right on it its stolen, and if they copy it and crop the borer, that proves its stolen and I can file a valid DCMA against them. And they can't say "well it was only linked" because to crop it, they have to steal it. I also turned of the inline linking on all my stuff...

And the worst part of all, in many cases, if the people would just ask, I bet a lot of us would say ok, go ahead.

eon-krate32 In reply to fraterchaos [2012-02-26 20:45:08 +0000 UTC]

I wouldn't really even care myself if it weren't for the fact that nobody asks me for permission first (it says right on my profile that all you have to do is ask).

...technically what you just described is called 'pirating', but that's another conversation.
