AS long as everyone understands who they are - comics can be heavily stylized. Abd I LOVE yours.

both styles are grand- but i find to enjoy the faceless look for your comics, they kind of let the reader imagine the expression as they desire- and it's easier on you, so comics come quicker. o.o

Random question that this drawing reminded me of...
So, no, you're not exactly "cartoony" but it's not realistic either (it's good, don't worry), so I'm just going to call it cartoony. Your drawing style, that it.
How did you get into cartooning? Or, more specifically, how did you develop your cartoon style, or figure out how to draw people in a cartoony way?
Um... I hope that all made at least some sense...

good question
In the early comics (which are all a bit shit) I'm just messing about with the easiest way to communicate who the character is without too much effort. They don't have faces because I draw the comics on a small scale, and it's quite difficult to fit in facial details, plus if done wrong they can really distract. I try to make the characters simple enough so I can draw comics quickly, but good enough that they don't distract from the jokes. Finding the key aspects of a character helps you figure out how to draw them, for example, Sherlock has a iconic fringe, and John's face is very square. Basically I just start with a very simple human figure, then modify it a bit to make it each character. I never really set out to have a style, it kind of just happened as I made more and more comics -hope this is helpful, if you have any other questions feel free to ask

Ah-Ha! Alright, I already have another question.
So, I am horrible at drawing people-like figures... And what you said made me think I should just focus on being able to draw just a generic person, and get good at it, and then work on making it an actual character. Is that a good idea?

Graphitekind In reply to Elf-the-Dog911 [2012-06-12 22:19:20 +0000 UTC]
yes! exactly! The best thing you can do to be able to draw a generic person well is go to life drawing classes, it will help you improve like no other kind of drawing! People are really hard to draw because humans have evolved to notice even the smallest irregularities, but that it part of what makes it so rewarding. Observational drawing is the best way to get better, whatever style of art you like
