Just a little tutorial I cooked up to help those with Paint - especially the newer one - in recoloring basic sprites. This is the method I use. I also have to apologize if it's cramped, as this is my first tutorial ever created. I hope it helps though ^^'Related content

Hmm, it can be. I usually don't do any scratch-spriting (making one from scratch. Clever name, eh?), but I can scratch in bits and pieces. Absaichu is probably the biggest case of scratching I've had to do.

People recolor sprites all the time, it's for fun. They turn pokemon sprites into characters, adding markings and different complex stuff. As Grassy said, need to start with the basics! ^^

Eh, how do you see people getting better if they can't do the basics? You can't just jump into a complex recolor if you have no idea how to even turn something into a different color silly billy XD

Taking a pony base and giving it different color, hair, different markings, different accessories and different cutie marks like you did is no different from taking a Jolteon, painting it a different color, adding hair, accessories, markings, etc to make it your own.

This isn't a matter of WHO, it's a matter of SPECIES.
Every pony base is EXACTLY THE SAME.
EVERY PONY IS A PONY.
How do you make a pony?
Take a pony BASE, give it a different mane, tail, accessories, etc.
The mane Six for example are recolors of each other, just different hair and different colors.
Every pony is a recolor.
It is no different than making a JOLTEON CHARACTER with different hair, accessories, etc etc.
I have a brown Jolteon character named Norah, she's brown and white, different markings, different hair, etc.
How else am I suppose to make a JOLTEON CHARACTER without using a JOLTEON BASE and recoloring it and adding hair and stuff?
It wouldn't be a Jolteon anymore now would it?

You make valid points, but what I'm talking about are recolors, not re-hair-ers.
I'm sorry for sounding harsh. I mostly see recolors with Sonic OCs, so I'm just kind of harsh on all of them. I can see the differences with Pokemon recoloring.

Sonic OC's I understand completely. I bloody hate recolors of them too.
With pokemon though, and ponies, you kinda can't help it, it's a species thing.
With Sonic OC's... people are just lazy.
My Sonic OC's were ferals, four legged that looked nothing like any Sonic character, people didn't like that and bitched about how ferals weren't around on Mobius.
I'm like -_- yeah ok, let creativity fly out the window. -_-

Eh, then that's your choice. I couldn't have made some of my fusions without recoloring ^^' Otherwise they would have looked like puzzles. Fun, but not really good for what I wanted XD
