Description
A speedpaint illustrating a bit of Lilianne's past, when she stranded in the Kerguelen Islands following a storm when she was six months old. The French scientists based there discovered her the following morning at low tide.My first stranding painting since March, I don't know if I've improved very much in this kind of scene since "First Responder".

the dark colors make this drawing stand out so well.

Compared to all the bright colors I use, it does. Thanks.

wow stunning work! The sand shading and texture is wonderful! Your style is more painted compared with First Responce but both are great!

Thank you!
Sand... meh. It's something I've always been leery of. Even more than water. But I'm glad you think it turned out okay in this case.
Between this and "First Responder", yeah, I have learned the benefit of using more than a set number of layers per piece. Even for smaller paintings, which benefit enormously for having detail. Maybe I'll recolor "First Responder" someday, as I kept the outline. But I've talked about that before, so, we'll see.

Yes, sand is very difficult! I have not even attempted it for that reason!

Indeed. If I hadn't found some rock/gravel brushes for GIMP, this painting would probably never have been.

Hmmm ....
Does she have a nick in her right flipper? I've looked closely at her pictures and I've noticed it in all of them
Good thing those scientists found her , wouldn't want to lose her <3

Yep. I've been waiting for someone to point that out.
Hence, the smudged bird tracks to her right. I imagine, lying on a beach all night, it would attract some seagulls who might try to take a bite or two out of you.
Nope. Had they 'not', I wouldn't have a commerson's dolphin character to paint.

Not much else you can say. Other than, "Nice that she was rescued, but ended up in captivity for it." I have a theory for why that is, though, as those researchers stationed on the Kerguelen Islands tend to be very conservative toward nature (in RL). The story goes that though she was taken to South Africa for rehabilitation, there was a 'mix up' in communication between the two groups of people involved, and she was transitioned from formula to fish without her original rescuers' knowledge, and by that point their was little interest in trying to turn her around, as her pod could not be located.
...I think these things out way too much.
And that last part: it was the insecure artist in me speaking again. I try to keep her muzzled, but it doesn't always work.

Based on how-many RL accounts of it happening to various dolphins throughout the captivity industry's history, it was pretty easy to think up.
Every artist has a "Doubting Thomas" voice in their head. I know it.
