Taskmaster
Real Name: Tony Masters

First Appearance: The Avengers #195 (May 1980)

A mutant born with the ability to copy the physical movements of anyone he witnessed, Tony Masters' abilities made it difficult for him to retain actual memories, so his past had long been a complete mystery to even himself. With nothing but his unique craft to fall back on, he chose to become a mercenary by trade, using the moves of other heroes and villains he had witnessed to make a living. It was not until he came face to face with the Avengers themselves was he caught and apprehended by SHIELD.

This was where he came to the attention of the man called "Zemo." Realizing what a potential asset Tony would be to his burgeoning Masters of Evil, Zemo had the mercenary sprung from S.H.I.E.L.D.'s custody. Once freed, Zemo argued that Tony's talents were too valuable to be wasted on mercenary work, rather he would be more useful teaching a new generation of would be Avengers enemies. And thus the Taskmaster program was born, a school of sorts led by Tony Masters to best prepare Zemo's recruits in the art of combat against the "world's mightiest heroes."

Tony himself has no real ill-will towards the Avengers or other heroes, he simply doesn't think there's much else he's good for.

Taskmaster isn't really a mutant in the comics but his abilities are mostly unexplained, so I just decided fuck it, he's a mutant here. He's also not associated with the Masters of Evil either, but I decided since he was so heavily associated with fighting Captain America and the Avengers I thought it was an easy extension to make to have his school be connected to the Masters of Evil.

Now Tasky's normal design is... uh, dated, we'll say. I think he's been in dire need of an upgrade for years, but they never seem to be able to stick with one. For this design, I started with my story of him being connected to the Masters of Evil, so I started with this kind of paramilitary type look, which helped that I started with Ultimate Taskmaster as a base. Ultimate Taskmaster's quite a bit different looking from normal and I thought it dropped too many of his classic staples, so this can be kinda seen as my attempt to rectify that. So he's got some modern looking body armor and a bunch of pouches and a pistol and what have you, but then I have his cape become more of a beige cloak. His shield still looks the same, but his sword is more of a straight up military issue machete and he's got a rifle on his back instead of a bow. What I really wanted to sell with this design was that he's very well prepared and has options for everything.
