Description
Drawing and text from Spring '08Prismacolor pencils on black paper 12"x18"
This being, "Turance," is the current reflection of what I consider to be my "higher self," or "guardian angel." Power and humility, energy and healing, inner knowing, fluidity, illumination, service...a mirror of my Self appearing in the clear void.

Fantastic! Very Alex Grey, but with a more outlandish design and sense of flow. Your creative vision and subtle mastery of the medium are very impressive.

Thank you - I am in a phase of moving past a raging enthusiasm for Grey's work, which seems to be letting his influence settle deeper, and allows me more room to grow in my own directions. Though I doubt any mastery in my work, I definitely am seeing it evolve in fruitful directions. By the way, I enjoy your quote, and am stealing your idea for favorite photographer.

If that were my guardian angel I'd feel pretty damn safe
I love the hands. This doesn't even look like a drawing...it looks like a scene from a movie because it just... GLOWS. I don't know of anyone else who can make their drawings literally GLOW. So...feel special. You have incredible talent. Keep at it.

Thanks Alex for your encouragement and enthusiasm. I tend, while looking at my own work, to sway between joyous enthusiasm and critical disinterest. It's good to get that positive energy from others.

Beautiful as always, Greg. It certainly has gotten more complex, but still very clean. I am wondering about one change, though. In the earlier versions, the "hands" of the figure seemed to blend or feed into the encircling ring. I love the energy braiding upward from the hands in this piece, but I also really appreciated that element of connection from the other sketches. Hardly a criticism since it looks gorgeous, just some curiosity as to why you switched it up and if there is any particular significance behind it (knowing you, I have my suspicions). Best, Adrienne.

That was something I heavily considered, after deciding to add the vortexes coming out of the hands. Those were mainly emphasized by the fact that I am persuing energy healing as a part-time profession, channelling energies through the hands for healing. Looking back on my work, I only recently realized how consistent this theme of energy/hands has been, and how at some level I have been destined towards this practice.
So, I wanted to add vortexes in the hands, but also preserve the expanding ring. Though it broke a little bit of the unity of the elements in the composition, I thing it broke for the better. I appreciate your attention to subtlety, knowing that some people really do give my work some time to settle and expand in their mind. Thanks Adrienne.

That's really beautiful, I love the color choice, on the dark background.
