Description
Sofen and I went to Guildford Museum and had a walk about the Surrey town. One thing I didn't realise was how hilly the place was. Sure, it's near the North Downs, but I didn't think it was directly on them. Still, the hills made the place interesting (well, for me it did; Sofen was a bit put out by them).
Anyway, getting to the point of the photo, it shows Guildford Castle's Keep. The castle was built by William the Conqueror or one of his barons in the 11th century. The keep in the photo, however, was built in the 12th century. I do have a photo of the ruins of the shell keep, which was built in the 11th century, but that will come later. This photo is a bit more impressive in my eyes.
The keep sits on top of a hill and gives some good views of the town and surrounding countryside. There are also some gardens there that would probably be lovely in the summer, but as it was early March, most of the flowers were hiding.
I've also got some photos of the museum's exhibits, but I'll tease you by saying that they'll be put up some time later. Sorry.
