Description
This is a drawing of Andrea, my girlfriend, sleeping.Edit: wow, i got a lot of comments on this one. First of all many many many thanks to everyone who commented or faved or added me as a friend. It's really encouraging to get this kind of response and hopefully you'll like whatever i do next as well. Having said that i'll see if i can answer some of the questions that popped up in this thread. The lower part of the drawing was done using only pencils and ashes, while the red bar on top was done using gouaches and black india ink. About that red bar, some people liked it 'cause they thought it gave depth to the picture and contrasted nicely with it while others found it too distracting and would prefer to have it removed. To tell the truth i did the red bar before i even considered doing the drawing beneath it and by the time it was finished i had gotten used to it sitting on top of everything. I did consider cropping it, but it just looked weird to me without it so i left it there. It doesn't hold any special significance, i just like it but i understand if some people do not.
To those that think that she's a lucky girl to have someone draw her like that all i can say is that i'm the lucky one to have her in my life and i only wish i could have drawn her as beautiful as she looks to me when i watch her sleep. Andrea could sleep through an atom bomb explosion so she didn't find it creepy that i drew her while she was asleep, i don't think she even noticed any movement. She also doesn't mind this drawing being posted, but she is more opinionated about this one [link] because she thinks i made her look fat. I fail to see it but she points out to the way i drew her stomach with an irritated look in her eyes and i end up finding myself at a loss for words.

Hi, i'm also a sucker for traditional art and i'm really glad you liked this one. I used pencils (1H all the way to 8B) and cigarette ashes for the drawn part. The red bar was done using gouaches and black india ink

Oh... this is gifted.
Your shading is godlike, at least. How long did this take you?
You work very, very well.

Hi, many thanks for your extremely kind words. They're very much appreciated and i'll try my best not to let them puff my ego too much (godlike? i mean, that's pretty much as good as it's gonna get ) It took me a couple of days but i didn't do it in one stretch. I tend to work on a piece and there's always a point i get blocked and can't make any progress so i switch to something else and the eventually i come back to it.

^^ yay. I love it when I catch exactly what the artist was trying to share. Perhaps because I enjoy being on the opposite end as well... of course, I don't have your kind of talent, so it's not exactly the same, but it's still wonderful.

Don't some people find it creepy that you are drawing them in their sleep?
well either ways it's good work.

Not Andrea in any case. She could sleep through an earthquake and not be disturbed. Now me on the other hand would get freaked out at very idea of someone intently watching me sleeping but that's another story. Glad you liked it.

Yes! At last! Someone did like the much maligned red thingie! Thank you. Honest. It was done using gouaches and black india ink.

That's is just amazing, there are just too may words I could say to describe the talent and skill in this drawing. Your folds are beautiful, the shape, form, texture, shading, value... it's all extremely well done. I've never seen such an amazing realistic piece before. Keep up the awesome work!!! And I hope you don't mind if I keep an eye out for you.

I've had a dream, since I was a kid.
It's always been the same and I can remember every detail, I can close my eyes and see it there in front of me. And everytime I think of it, I'm overcome, and I have to sit and smile for a moment.
This is probably the closest thing to that dream that anyone will ever draw.
I'm smiling right now.

Wow, that's one of the nicest compliments anyone's ever paid me. It means that you liked the drawing but more importantly, it meant something to you as well. Or at least that's the way it sounds to me. Thanks for sharing that, i really appreciate it.
And, i just had to say it, that's one killer avatar you got there. Long live Mel Brooks

aww. that is such a sweet drawing.
did you draw this as she was sleeping?
it's amazingly drawn. I especially love the textures and details you brought out in the blankets
and in her lovely sleeping face.
it's awesome.
just one question? is there a reason for the red banner at the top? red for love?
just wondering

Thanks! Andrea has a really heavy sleep and mine belongs in the paranoid nerve-wrack category so i used to get plenty of chances to see her while she sleeped (i don't anymore 'cause she lives in Mexico and i live in the U.S. which is a major bummer). I've always loved the way she looked when she was sleeping and for quite awhile i had the idea to draw her like that and then one day i did. However, even considering that she's been known to sleep 16 hours straight i didn`t finish it in one sitting. I skecthed for some time and then she woke up and went to the bathroom. I later had her pose for me in an attempt to recreate that scene (not the same, i know, but it helped) and i finished evrything days later on my own. As for the red banner i re-edited the deviation description to include a very bad attempt at provinding a reason for its existance. There isn't any but you might find amusement at watching me fumble it through.

hehe.. yes. I did read it a day ago or so actually. and I'm quite satisfied with the explanation.
hehe. somethings artists do, are for personal reasons that noone else really can understand.
I'm surprised you've actually replied. seeing as you've probably gotten very many comments and favs and such.
your girlfriend is beautiful sad to hear she is a bit of distance from you. I know how it is to be so far from someone you love.
I read this little piece of prose [link] and it said everything. I think you may like it too.
your drawing could fit well with it too.
