Description
The actual title (which doesn't fit in the submission box) is "In the morning, they wore each other's faces" which is the final verse of the Ted hughes poem I originally wanted to illustrate, failing miserably at it I might add, since the final image has very little in common with what I originally set out to do. Still, I almost never manage to make the image I had in my mind when I first start a new piece so I try to enjoy the ride even if it drifts in a completely different direction. This is one of the very few images I've made in the past couple of years for which absolutely no reference was used and it kind of shows in terms of proprtion, perspective and anatomy. The man's legs are probably shorter than his forearm and if he were to actually stand that way he would fall of his chair in a heartbeat. Even so it was very refreshing to work that way instead of trying to draw from life so I might try it more often in the future. I hope you guys like it

On the contrary, the funky proportions and feel really enhance the emotion in it.
Well done.

I personally like the distortion in the figures proportions...it adds to the tension and surreal nature of the piece. The shading is lovely...very nice over all. The composition is well done...and I love the way the eye is drawn over the two figures (the tube joining the two masks)...

Yeah this is great. Definately draw from your mind. I think it's better for developing creatively. All the proportion problems will eventually be easy to manage. Great work though it's beautiful

You received so much coments on this deviation that there is nothing else to say... I might say: "I love it" or "Their bodies are elaborate" or maybe "The proportions are well done despite you say they are not (maybe guy's left hand seems a bit longer to me, but nevermind)"... But I suppose you heard all of this and many others too. I can just repeat what they said... You are a good painter I suppose.... I'd like to can draw as realistic pictures as you... Are you gonna to become a famous paintor one day?

wonderful interpretation of Hughes..and the anatomical irregularities add to,rather than detract, from the artwork...very thought-provoking

I love it. Though i wonder why you chose to make the people shaded darker than the clothing, what it lighting or is the clothes just white?
Anyways I like it ^^

I'm soooo busted with your question. To be honest I originally wanted the clothes to be a darker shade, closer to the type of suits you would normally encounter in the business world or at a fancy event. Problem was, if I'd left the suits at their original darker tones I fear they would have been lost within the darker background I was making. I could have gotten rid of the darker surroundings but there's no part of the drawing process that I enjoy more than texturing those crosshatched backgrounds, which has made me overly dependent on them for composition purposes. Making the suits lighter is a bit of a cop-out but it was the only way I could think of that would let me keep them in there without screwing the composition I was trying to make.
Glad you liked it though

I often find that drawings of people, especialy by artists who are used to drawing from life, which are done purely from the imagination, show markedly more personality. I love that expression on her face and the features of both of their bodies take on a kind of rare individuality. I love this!
