Being 4'9" (1.44m) myself, I always notice differences in height, which too many artists neglect. Since we're not told that Snape or Hermione is either particularly tall or particularly short, I assume they're average: Β 5'9" and 5'4", which is average height for in the UK for men and women respectively. That's right, everyone! A woman who is 5'4" is not petite; she's average.
