The way all of the brushstrokes are layered makes them appear to be...just floating. They look like they are popping off of the canvas. Such a great effect.

It's vent art. The end result doesn't matter. It's the doing of it that does, helps to relieve feelings and stress.Β

I agree throwing some paint on a canvas can be a great outlet. We all need to action-paint from time to time

All art will always attract at least one critic, but to be a good critic, one MUST provide backing to said criticism, or it's just words that fall flat and come across as rude.

I mean I understand that art is all a matter of opinion and what you think is art is just relative to what you perceive of the world around you, but commenting on art in such a way can be pretty offensive.

"The colors look dull and it's kinda boring to look at." That's not constructive in any way whatsoever. o.o It's just hyper-critical with no real backing as to why you think so or how you think she could go about "improving" what you believe to be dull and boring. On top of that, adding the disclaimer on the end doesn't make it any better. It's equivalent to just doing the whole "I'm rubber, you're glue" thing to frustrate the receiving party and try to kick them off their footing so they can't argue.Β

I understand that you are also an artist and you clearly have a great understanding of color values and depth, but I fail to see how this piece can qualify as either of the above descriptions. If you don't mind; please explain? I'm curious as all hell.Β

Hi,

Sorry it took me so long to reply.
Uhm well, i get what you are saying, but i was just giving my honest opinion, really my first thoughts about it. I'm not a poet, nor is english my first language, so i might have put it simplisticly. I could have said 'the colors have no depth to them, they look 'flat' and uninteresting. It doesn't make me wanna discover more brushstrokes and color variations, cause there are none.'
This is what i said, but written down more 'fancy', i guess.
And about the ' just my opinion' part, i put that there just because i know i'm just one person with a very subjective opinion. I don't claim to be master of the arts, or pretend i above all have the right to say something is good or bad... I'm just little old me, with my little old opinion. I recognize that others will absolutely love this piece. I just don't, really.
It wasn't my intention to offend and/or be rude.

Don't worry about being late replying; it was actually pretty quick.

I appreciate your well-worded response. It's clear you actually took the time to think before replying which doesn't happen often on here.Β I also do understand your point, that it was simply an opinion that you wished to state about the piece. I am not of the mindset to try and deny you basic freedoms that all human beings have; however, I would like to note that the stating of opinions can be traversed much more... tactfully? I guess that's the word I'm going for. You understand what I mean. I understand that English is not your first language; and if so, that's quite impressive. You've very good at it. Either way, opinions, whether they be subjective or not, can be hurtful.

ex. Seeing someone and calling them fat can be very damaging, and the same can be said for art. Maybe a better way to word it would have been "This isn't for me" or something along those lines; a much more tactful and less personal approach, outlining that the particular piece wasn't your 'cup of tea' as it were. Not everyone likes the same body type just as not everyone likes the same art. But if we draw parallels between the two we begin to see just how carefully placed our opinions must be to maintain a more pleasant artistic community.Β

Believe it or not, this happens allot to me in real life aswell... I'm having a hard time reading people and giving an appropriate respons. It's probably worse online, cause people can't see my face,...my not angry, friendly looking, good intentions, faceΒ
I'll try to keep in mind what you said next time i comment on someones art.

Have a nice day.
