Description I've seen this one knocking about a lot the past moneth and I've been DYING to have a crack at it myself, so I finally got round to it. Okay, so this is probably just me being a total hopeless geek but in the UNBELIEVABLY VAGUE off-chance that you might actually be INTERESTED in what influences me ...

MIKE MIGNOLA - one of my "Big Three", my MAIN INFLUENCES ... there's just nobody else like him out there, or at least there wasn't when he started doing his think (these days there are plenty of imitators, but with a VERY FEW exceptions most of them don't even hold a FRACTION of a candle to his awesome talent). Okay he's probably best known for Hellboy, but I first came across him in THIS, Aliens: Salvation, way back when I was in my early teens ... BOY did this have an impact on me. If nothing else he's shown me the right way to draw really great hands ...

DREW STRUZAN - even if you don't know who he is you're SURE to know his work ... this guy is THE Go-To trad artist for really FANTASTIC movie posters and the like. He's responsible for many of the most iconic one-sheets around, the most notable of which is, in my opinion, his awesome poster for John Carpenter's The Thing. And he did a really choice Hellboy poster not too long ago ...

ADAM WARREN - one of our fellow Deviants, is THE BEST Western manga-style artist around, and I've been a fan of his FOREVER, so it was proper awesome to find him on here. These days he's probably best known for his excellent creator-owned comic Empowered, but I first came across him on his equally choice work on The Dirty Pair.

STAR WARS - well everybody who knows me knows I have two main geeky LOVES ... the works of Joss Whedon, and The Holy Trilogy. Return of the Jedi was THE FIRST movie I ever saw in the cinema (Jabbe the Hutt scared the five year old SNOT outta me ), and needless to say these movies have had such a massive influence on EVERYTHING I've created since forever, both art AND writing. Okay, most of the time it can be pretty subtle, but it's there if you look ...

ADAM HUGHES - another fellow Deviant, is quite simply the best comic book pin-up artist around, and of course his take on Catwoman is regarded by many (including myself) to be THE DEFINITIVE Selina Kyle. Nobody draws gorgeous photo-realistic ladies better ...

BEN CALDWELL - the debt I owe to THIS GUY is truly immense ... seriously, if I hadn't discovered his Action! Cartooning book back in 2003 my art would probably still officially SUCK! He taught me how to formulate decent poses and simplify anatomical details/stuff when I needed to, but most of all to still work in my own PERSONAL style while I'm at it. Honestly, if you guys are stuggling any getting your characters to WORK, check him out: [link]

MASAMUNE SHIROW - my personal favourite manga artist, but also (rightfully) widely regarded as one of THE GREAT MASTERS of the art form. He was the original creator of Ghost in the Shell, but I've always loved his epic Appleseed best myself - Deunan Knute is pretty much my DEFINITION of a strong, tough, ballsy action heroine. He designs some awesome characters, but where he REALLY excels (well, as well as in drawing some GORGEOUS femmes, of course ) is in his mighty skill with creating fantastic futuristic tech ...

CHRIS BACHALO - another one my Big Three, and (I think) the best artist to ever pencil the X-Men. To be honest you can probably see this guy's influence ALL OVER my characters (particularly the girls) - if you don't know him, TOTALLY check him out! [link] He's drawn everybody from Elektra to Witchblade, and he's responsible for the DEFINITIVE Neil Gaiman's Death ...

JACK LAWRENCE - another Deviant, draws some fantastic creatures ... and most importantly, he showed me how easy it is to take essentially human-looking characters and nonetheless make them look a little ... OFF, a little different. Check out his comic book Darkham Vale if you love your vampires and beasties MONSTROUS ...

FRANK MILLER - the final member of my Big Three, and probably my VERY FAVOURITE ARTIST EVER!! He draws the hottest girls (Gail! Nancy!) and the coolest beefy antiheroes (Marv! Dwight!), he was the guy who originally created Elektra (REALLY!) ... and SINGLE-HANDEDLY reinvented Batman just when he needed it most (his influential fingerprints are ALL OVER Chris Nolan's Batman movies, and The Dark Knight Returns was pretty much the BLUEPRINT for Tim Burton's original adap). He's a GOD at composing page layouts, at visual (and written) storytelling, drawing dynamic action and consistantly striking us DUMB ever time we turn a page ... I just can't say enough cool stuff about this guy! And if you want a quick crash-course all you gotta do is sit down and watch either Sin City or 300 ... but right here I decided the BEST way to show just WHY I love him so much is with his FINEST creation ... "Deadly Little Miho" ...

Yeah, this is surely one BIG WALL of waffle, but good on you if you stuck with it. I'm a geek, I own up to it. But then the best geeks LOVE that they're geeks, don't they?

If you wanna give this a go yourself (seriously, DO IT! It's a GREAT exercise), just go to 's original template [link] And HAVE FUN!!
