"You ready to take it out for a spin?". That was what Sev asked me when he unveiled to me the rebirth of what I thought to be my lost racecar from my days as a racer. It looked so different from what I last remembered it to look like, apart from it being a charred wreck of course. The smile I had on my face getting in the seat and hearing the engine roar to life as I test it out on the Black Spitfire's test course was so big that my cheeks hurt after doing several laps in and getting reacquainted with it after soo long. By lap 10 or so I think I was crying tears of joy at the feeling. The settings needed to be dialed in, but everything else was perfect. Sev, Cookie, Aki, Quelle, Sheldon, Rena and a couple of other members watched me race around the test course, shattering my personal best the more and more I got comfortable within it. I did I think 30 laps on the course till I stopped to take it in again as the memories of this machine came flooding back. I had a chat with Sev after the session, mentioning I couldn't believe he'd actually found my racecar from back then even though I presented him with that idea as a joke initially. He explained to me the difficulty of locating my machine. Mentioning that initially he thought some museum would've possibly had it considering the history of it and me being such a known driver back then. All the museums he checked returned back his inquiries with the car getting scrapped after that near fatal crash I had back then, which is what I thought too. He even tried asking some of the folk in ZER0 if they've known of that machine's whereabouts but the leads lead to dead ends. To his surprise he found a lead with the junker where he found his vehicle "Banshee" from, mentioning a friend who was a 10th generation of a family of motorsport marshalls who managed the course I crashed in a long time ago on Firefly Forest States. That family took in and kept all the irreparable wrecks that happened on that course as souvenirs. He, Cookie, Jay, Quelle, Sheldon and Rena were all flabbergasted at what they laid their eyes on. It was a warehouse, stored with hundreds of wrecked racecars since their family started doing their things there in the 50s. They all split to look for it going through old racecar to another trying to figure out which wreck was the one. Sev found it and he mentioned to me that the only recognizable part about it was the #98 car number on the nose. All that was left was one wheel, the cockpit body, and the engine. Everything else was torn off when I crashed that day. When it was time to negotiate the wreck, he mentioned how surprised they were that somebody was planning to rebuild the machine after all these years and came all the way from Magic Waters to find it. They laughed him and the others off initially but their tone changed when they realized that they were serious. He made a promise to them that once it's rebuilt, he'll return back there with me to give them a few laps on the race course. I laughed when he mentioned that but a promise a is a promise, so the next time my batch gets a break I'll be sure to travel there and give them a show. It's still crazy to me to think that this was my old 98 Accelerate from back then. Those people over at ZER0 are vehicle wizards, turning a once open wheeled racecar wreck into a sleek racing machine of the modern era is just amazing. I could still see where the cockpit was based off the sitting position and engine layout, it's almost seamless. That engine too, I'm surprised they were able to resurrect that old motor from back then and even upgrade it to levels that young me wouldn't imagine handling on the course, let alone the road. It still sounds the same, albeit more aggressive and louder with the added whine of that supercharger it's an auditory bliss. When we had dinner that night after me getting acquainted with the rebuilt 98 Accelerate, Jay asked me where that nickname initially came from and what the original model name of the car was. I explained to him that the nickname "98 Accelerate" was a corruption of the car model I raced at the time. The car was originally called the Accel Motorsports 980B and was a relatively popular open wheeled racecar back then. Where over the years it got upgraded and upgraded to the point where it was pretty much it's own separate thing following my specifications. Which is when I started using the name "98 Accelerate" for my vehicle. It was such a nice day and it made my month just more happier knowing 98 Accelerate is alive again. I cannot thank Sev, Cookie, Jay, Quelle, Sheldon, the folks at ZER0 and everyone enough who helped fixed and located my machine. I can't wait to put it through its paces on a proper race, all it needs is a bit more tweaking. I'm SO pumped!
