Description Well this 'un took me a little while longer than expected to color. Reason being that this is the second attempt. The first one was almost identical with the exception of the wheels. I colored them black feeling that if I colored them red that there would be too much color. I was wrong, the Heisler looked to darn "plain" and the scheme didn't look balanced.

Well I revised the design and here we are. A nice looking geared locomotive with a balance color/paint scheme that I would dare say looks quite sharp. Again, I've tried to stick with a "Disney" theme and or feel, I believe I've acomplished that goal. My only other comlaint is the yellow trim on the domes. They are a bit too "thick" and look more like brass bands wrapped around them, instead of being painted yellow stripes.

I have yet to decern a name for this loco, suggestions are encouraged.
And hopefully I'll have a job soon, which means that we may see this loco, along with many others, come to thruition soon! This will make one smashing On30 model, wouldn't you agree?

Now to draw the Shay!

Comment if you Fav plz!!!

Yep! One day I'll get to building it. I already have an HO heisler on the bench to use. Now I just need to get the rest of the parts for it. Wiseman Model Services has a wonderful On30 conversion kit for a Heisler, though I plan on changing and replacing some of the parts to better match my concept here.

Neat little engine! Would make a nice little amusement park train to haul around guests. Looking forward to the shay!

Gorgeous, I love how you offsetted the drive rods slightly. Something awesome about a Heisler. ^^

Yeah, I pictured it running in my head and I thought it would look better this way with the offset side rods. The red wheels add a lot to the loco's look to.

Very impressive! , i guess you know quite alot of steampowered trains or Did you use locomotive blueprints?

Nope, the loco is entirely freelanced!! Well... so to speak. Although they are a rarity there were gear driven steam engines. There were three basic types: The "Shay", the "Climax", and the "Heisler". Which is what is pictured here. There were only a VERY select few Heisler locos with wooden cabs as I have portrayed. However I'm certain that there wasn't a single Heisler with "fluted" domes. (the really old time, fancy looking ones like what I have here)
I'm going for a "Disney-esk" look and feel to go with my "Big Thunder Mountain RR" layout I will eventually be building.

And yes, it does help a lot when you know a thing or two about steam locomotives.
