Description To complement my recent werewold deviation I am very surprised to learn that somewhere out there someone managed to fold my gryphon from the very limited information I gave on the internet: [link]

This is going to be pretty boring and a bit technical, but here goes:
A. This is the original werewolf that I began with. Pretty disappointing to learn that my sister did not recognize it as werewolf until I told her what it is, that is when I know I have to improve the model. From the creasing pattern below werewolf A, you can see that I simply used Maekawa Jun's devil concept to design the hands and the head (the fingers took too many paper area here). The mane and head took almost 1/2 area of the paper here. The ears came from raw edges so I can color change it easily. Now the limitations this model have are that I cannot get long tail or toes and it can't stand on both legs. Also if I want to make the mane bigger that will shorten the arm length significantly. Hence, I decided to pleat the raw edges of the square as shown in B.

B. This model has better proportion as the fingers and toes has can be folded from the pleats I did on 2 raw edges, which gave the appearance of "adding paper area" onto a square As the fingers came from the "additional paper" and not from the square, hence, I can get longer arm length. However, the arm became too long here so I decided to use that excess paper to enrich the mane. The toes are 5 and I shall reduce that to 4 and make the legs longer as nicely suggested by so many people.

Hope that helps for those people who are eager to try this model. Just print out the pattern and collapse the lines (blue and red = mountain and valley fold resp.) I suggest you use at least 50 cm square thin paper. Enjoy !

I'm dying of envy here- I used to love oragami and will now return to it- I never imagined such detail and forethought going into a piece, its just mind boggling. maybe after I do a couple thousand cranes and fish I'll try something more complicated, and then a few decades later I'll start thinking of maybe doing anything as incredibly intracate as this... though I doubt I'll live long enough to reach that level... its just mind boggling.

You did a fantastic job on this. Im curious how do you make the original design for your beautiful pieces of oragami? is it something you draw out on paper like you have above and then fold it accordingly? or do you know how to make the lines to make your object? Simply amazing.!

Oragami is such an amazing art, with the complex designs and such and this just proves how much works goes into such things.

You'll always be my origami hero, Gus

As usuañ, those patterns looks overly complicated to me, (Damn, for the las time, I need to learn to collapse bases!) as I can't mentally fold them, but I'll try to squeeze them of the most info I can (specifically, I need to learn how you make the toes, since I tried something similar for a dragon-like model but never managed to make it work... )

May I just say "Wow!" When you sent out the journal entry, I was expecting something that only slightly changed from a basic wolf, but this is outstanding. It's obvious that it's not 'just' a wolf. Plus the attention to detail is fantastic. I'm still horrible at folding all semblance of hands on any origami models, so the fact that you debated whether to have four or five claws (my vote is five) was something that I just kind of gaped at openly for a while. Anyway, I think the finished product turned out fantastically. Good luck on whatever your next endeavor may be.

Sincerely,
Jade Lightning_Wolf

Hehe Thank you very much I always try to make my origami original and different from other origami artists. I mean, what is the point of creating an elephant when it will eventually look similar to John Montroll's elephant which in my opinion is already perfect! I want to set up the bar high enough so people can't reach it I guess Thank you again for your thoughtful comment, you made my day

Those lines are painful to look at- mostly because I can just imagine myself getting frusterated over them- but the designs are so nice! I like the proportions on the second one better, though the first one looks like an 'old monster-movie' type werewolf.

Thank you To some people those line are very helpful to reconstruct the werewolf Werewolf A is not good and that is why I made B

Very glad you saw the gryphon I've folded. I have to say this wasnt easy to fold, the partial diagram is even harder than any crease pattern. But that was an interesting challenge.

Thanks for making a clear crease pattern for this fantastic Werewolf, it will be much easier to fold it

Anyway, I'm fond of your work.

Stunning design as always. I just adore the head shape...
I also tried to fold the gryphon that You mentioned (from the partial diagram), but had some serious problems with recognizing creases on that golden paper. A clear CP would probably help a lot.
As for the Werewolf's toes - They're on the same graft as five, human-like-shaped fingers. Have You already got an idea how to reduce toes number to four, but leaving five fingers intact?

Thank you so much I did not know so many people are interested in making my gryphon, send me private note if you like the pattern. I plan to publish it in book so I'm not going to put it online. From comment it seems you are pretty experienced in origami? Well the process of reducing the toes to 4 is pretty simple, just pull down the line to the 4th point and bisect everyting accordingly

I love the way you take pictures of them.
'A' looks like some awesoem perspective posing art where the werewolf is putting his head up close to the lens and snarling in an awesome cool way, and 'B' looks like a more "ARGH I AM HOWLING AT THE MOON : D" and dramatic and such. I dont' know if I can really say what I am talking about but I hope you get it D:
