i come to visit him whenever i puruse your work
when the strength of a well worked back is coupled with strength of character...
a sense of safety and assuredness...reliance on his face
love the contrast with the rest of the room

as for the story
well i think animal husbandry can go beyond the mere "raising"... a relation very few in "modern" society understand

this is a look that i have seen often in the faces of men, especially those who work so hard in their job that it becomes their life. you have captured that open gawk of sudden realisation in his eyes... and amplified it by surrounding his image with things of delicate and ornate nature.

he's probably a hardcase farmer, have you told him how popular this picture has become here on dA?

this portrait is supposed to tell about the humanbeing in front of the camera. yet it doesnt tell anything to me. maybe i am from a third world country and my perception of a farmer is completely different from the owner of this photo.
i would have preferred the omission of the farmers story part written by the owner of this photo.
for me this is a wonderful example technical photography .

This image greatly depicts how hard he worked to earn the almost castle-like, ornately-decorated home he sits in. At the same time, his expression is so sad... could make one wonder if he is truly happy with the outcome of his work.

What an amazing moment you have captured, it is fascinating to see into another person's life. And hearing the story behind it is also very interesting, I think more people should share more photos and stories like this. I also agree with earlier comments that this photo has that gritty depression era feel.

This picture brings up so many questions for me - how does Jim the Dairy Farmer have such an extravagant looking home? (Good shooting)
If the sheep died in his wife's arms, I assume she's outside, so why is Jim in the house? What kind of man is he?
How do you know Jim and how did you happen to be there right at that very moment?
What did he think of you taking the picture right then? Such a vulnerable time.

I really shouldn't ask these kind of questions, as I am only aware of two sentences of the series of events and about this human life, but this is the first picture, ever, which has really made me ponder so many questions....Thank you for that.

Cheers,

AT
