Behold everyone, this is my first comic I've ever made entirely on the tablet, the line art, coloring, everything was done on the tablet.. this comic does not exist in physical form!.. pretty neat huh?
I've really loved getting into business with Nex-Kel, she's one of my least developed characters and it's very refreshing being able to work with a Vortian character for a while.. art wise.. drawing the legs and horns.. it's a nice change from drawing Irkens all the time! Plus she's always fun to draw, incredibly cute and sweet.. which is always fun and rewarding to draw.
I find that I'm much more open to drawing detailed backgrounds using the tablet, being because I can draw in photoshop and put the backgrounds on a separate layer and not have to worry about messing anything up.. which is why I hardly drew backgrounds in my hand-drawn comics. I think this is my first time ever really drawing what the Vort Station #9 hallways and such look like.
I know people probably have all their own ideas of what the station looked like but hey.. this is mine. XD I always pictured metal hallways bathed in white, very clean, very cold temperature-wise.. and of cause very sanitary. In fact I pictured this so strongly it carried over to Owen and Plink themselves.. I always pictured them as very clean, neat, cold-skinned, and...virgin? XD
Well it looks like Nexy here has for some reason or another taken notice of Skif, Chaos' character, who is in fact her secret admirer who sent her the flowers and letter. Is it female intuition? Is it some kind of spiritual connection that drew her eyes to his? You decide!
I have to admit, I haven't studied what Skif's military position is. However I assume he's at the station as some sort of temporary security force or possibly there to pick up a new shipment of weapons.

I'm getting to the point with this tablet usage where I actually kind of prefer it to drawing on paper now. I mean think about it, if you screw up you can erase completely with no consequence.. there's no touch-up process, you use up no physical material.. it's really nice. On the positive side for you guys, its very easy to color my drawings now making it easy to show you guys my characters in such in their full vibrant colorful forms! I'd really be interested in hearing your opinions on my tablet drawings because they seem to be met with mixed reviews.. would you be interested in me making the next OAPR comic in this form? Let me know ok?

Oooh...panel 3 has to be my favorite! I love the perspective on that and the way everything is shaped. It's such a neat background. I really like the blue ceiling.
The concept is too cute and fun. I can't help from giggling at the contrast between the two dudes. Skif is so happy and the other guy doesn't seem at all thrilled to be there.
Your tablet skills have really improved. I hope you don't give up on paper and pencil forever though because I've always loved your pencil work. And more details can get lost like outlines (like on Nex-Kel's gloves). I think with more high-lighting in places, it could really help with that. I think it'd be cool to see the new comic in color, but part of me wants both versions. XD

I'm glad I could get that picture up here on DA. I wanted to make it clear that, at least the building O and P work in, is just one big round tower (as can be seen on the OAPR stargazing comic issue) so most of the hallways are curving.
OH the other guy is sleeping.. I guess I probably should have put some ZZZs next to him huh? XD
Don't worry, I don't think I'll give up on paper, I like being able to turn the paper, something I cant do with the tablet.

I feel like it's colorful and that's wonderful to be able to see the characters in all their full-blown color glory, but it seems very... unlike your hand drawn stuff. The lines aren't as exact, and I feel like it would be better if you used a process like the one you used on the Owen's ghost picture and a few others like it. [ [link] ] I dont feel like I'm really reading a comic by Half-dude anymore when it's all soft and tablet-y. But if you plan on getting anywhere truly awesome in the future with just hand drawing on the tablet, then I say this would probably be the best way to go about it. Practice makes perfect and all that jazz.

Sometimes I forget that I specifically asked people to critque my new drawing style with the tablet.. I forget and that makes comments like this feel like you wont except anything I draw if it's on tablet. 
It is unfortunate you favor the way I drew the Owen's ghost picture, because to me I hate how that picture came out. XD But I just don't understand how thicker more vibraty lines can make you feel like your not reading one of my comics.. I mean it's still my drawing style.. and my characters.

It's hard to explain. It's just very unlike everything else you've done. Any large change in style will be met with varying opinions. But if you truly do love the way you draw with the tablet, and you want to hone your abilities in that area, I say go for it. I'm not saying that I don't like it. I'm saying that it's very different. But if you like it this way, if shouldn't really matter what any of us think (though that may be the most cliched phrase ever). Do what you think would be best for you as an artist.

Maybe it's just me but it looks like she's trying to do the gun point gesture out of Nervousness or something!

You draw so much detail and its so amazin raisin that it knocks me out of my socks! 83 I mean, look at that hallway, even when I saw it before yah colored it I was like "OMG Ian that's amazing stop beasting so much with your detail and stuffs" XD but you can never stop beasting, cause you are a beast! RAWR 
Ok I'll get off the hallway now XD the characters themselves are very detailed, and your line and color work has really improved over the last few months ^^And I frackin love Nex-Kel, I love how she blushes and shyly waves at Skif, and Skif just kinda waves back like "Oh hey" And along with her cuteness, just seeing her walking along she looks like a very bright and intelligent individual, clutching onto her books with a smile on her face ^^ even though she's a Vortian, she's not upset about it ^^ Go Nex-Kel! *cheers*
On the digital/traditional thing, I would kinda like to see a mix, cause I do love both, but I LOVE traditional artwork. Why, I dunno, I just find it so much more amazing, and that it actually exists outside of the computer ^^ whatever you decide to do is up to you, but I would like to see variation, cause variation is good and yah don't get bored XD

Haha I can't stop beasting though, when it comes to environments I'm actually pretty good.. have you seen my Skitzos 7 picture? I get it from my days of level editing, you had to find ways to make the level architecture interesting.. maybe I could make an architecture tutorial.. that might be fun.

Nex-Kel is a hard one to get down, she's just naturally optimistic it seems. Plus Owen usually gives her very easy jobs, carry notes and other stuff from point A to B.. or clean the lab, turn something on.. ect ect..
I know, I need to TRY and not do tablet, just a little hard when I can just pick up the tablet and draw, cuz it's right next to my desk. XD

I personally hate trying to do comics in Photoshop. xD I prefer traditional over that. But in your case, it looks great! I love the detailed backgrounds and the vibrant colouring. It's something new! Only thing I'd nitpick about is the smoothness of the lineart, I usually use the pen tool for that kind of stuff, but it's alright if you were going for a slightly edgier look than your traditionally drawn comics pull off. It's not a big deal, it still looks smooth enough to be considered legit for a comic.
I would like to see you try this kind of style on at least one issue of the OAPR story, just to kind of see how it'd look like.

Really why? I mean isn't it nice not having smudging and crapz? Aww L <: D thanks.. I'm glad you like it. Oh believe me, the line art was much worse originally. I don't know about you, but mine.. depending on how much pressure you use, the wider your lines will be.. so it's really hard to make a line that isn't all wobbly.. Oo I hope the bumps aren't TOO annoying. I kinda like them though.. makes it look like a painting.
Oh yes, I think OAPR would look so cute in color, seeing little red eyed Plink and green eye'd Owen being all lovey.. heck it'd look like Christmas!

Well, I don't care about my pencil lines smudging because my process is sketch-ink-erase sketch, so it doesn't matter anyway. xD I just have a lot of issues with the overall size of the document and the smoothness of the lineart. You see, I have a much better perception of the sizes when it's actual paper, and to achieve smooth lineart, I have to use the pen tool, which will take ages for me. But no probs. ^^
And yeah, I know what you mean about the pen pressure. I always put that to good use especially with colouring, and I'm pretty much used to it. However with lineart, I'm always too lazy to fix it up, so I leave my lineart horrible as it is. xDD But I know how you feel. Your lineart is considerably cleaner than mine anyway, so the bumps aren't really too annoying to me. Lineart's clean enough as is. But it does have that edgy painter-ish look indeed.

Nex Kel is a quite loving character and I'm always happy to see more with her. You do have been evolving her with you drawings of her, so she's not just another minor background character. She's such a loveably sweet character ^^
I'm impressed you drew all this only by tablet, that is pretty cool. Your lines have clearly gotten much more smooth since you started on tablet and you really look to have gotten the hand of it ^^ Really neat to see a coloured comic of yours, even with nicely detailed background along with the colouring. A good look at the Vort 9 designs. Only thing I'm missing is shading. Besides that, this is wonderful
If you got to a stage where you preferly to entirely draw with tablet, that's only cool. Means bigger chances of more coloured stuff from you afterall

Yeah it's short and sweet but it gets the job done.
aww Yeah, I love her ^^ in fact I think she might even out cute Owen you think? I mean Owen has the whole innocent little girliness to her, but its obvious she's still an aged and experienced woman.. however even physically Nex-Kel IS just a young girl with that innocent little personality, loving everything.
Well you see, I lied a little, there is a clean up process. I draw everything semi-neat, but then I go back and try to chip away the bumpyness and other defects in my lines.. but being on a computer theirs no smudging and no 'ghost lines' left.. REALLY nice.
Well, I was GOING to put shading in, and in fact I did use a gradient on the background. But then I thought about it, and my B/W comics didn't have shading at all or color.. so it might not be perfect but it's still better you know?
It honestly is getting to the point where it's easier then drawing on paper, I mean that part about not using up material is big for me.. I HATE having to sharpen my pencils all the time. XD
