P E R S O N A L I T Y
don't have the best of everything
◯
easy going - laid back - carefree - friendly - resilient - noncommittal
◯ So laid back that he’s almost horizontal, Dmitry seems to float through life, completely unbothered by… well, anything. He doesn’t take anything personally, never holds grudges, and bounces back from any setbacks with ease. This rather blithe outlook on life lends him an easy confidence, and brings with it the happy side effect of resilience.
◯ He’s of the (somewhat fatalistic) opinion that no wolf can change the future, and as such, worrying about what has happened or could happen is a waste of time and energy. There’s no use in stressing about things that you can’t control. His carefree nature can be a breath of fresh air for those who need it, and it certainly seems to bring Dmitry contentment.
◯ Many can find his nature frustrating. It seems as though he has no willingness to take any responsibility or control of his own life, and his easy going attitude in the face of adversity or loss can seem disrespectful. No amount of reasoning with him seems to encourage him to take anything seriously, or feel passionately about it. It could be that he is perhaps afraid of having to confront feelings that he doesn’t understand.
◯ Preferring to go with the flow, ever-agreeable Dmitry makes friends easily with all types of personalities, mostly by virtue of his habit to nod and concur with whatever they say. If said friends were to talk to each other about their mutual connection, they could come away with the impression that he is hypocritical, but truthfully, he just doesn’t seem to have many opinions of his own, and his complete lack of interest in conflict - even friendly debate - means he keeps what few opinions he does have close to his chest.
◯ It takes a great deal of time and effort to develop anything beyond a surface level bond with Dmitry, and many will find that he just isn’t capable of the emotional or intellectual depth that they’re seeking in a friend or partner. He’s distinctly non-committal, though not on purpose: he doesn’t fear a deeper connection, rather does not seem to understand them. He is close to his family, but even they will often find him lacking, and he’s the last sibling they’d turn to if they needed advice.
◯ Dmitry isn’t the brightest star in the sky. While he’s by no means stupid, he isn’t prone to intense deep thought and doesn’t make the best partner for intellectual debate. He has little time or patience for the unknown, certain that someone else will figure it all out in the end. While fond of a story or fantastical tale, he takes a more pragmatic approach to life and prefers fact over fiction.

but make the best of everything

◯ First born to the second litter, Dmitry and his littermates never really got the chance to know their mother. He remembers her in flashes and glimpses, in scents and feelings of soft fur, in murmurs in the darkness. She died shortly after he and his siblings were weaned, much to the despair of their father, who was never quite the same after the loss.
◯ As a result, the responsibility of raising the second litter largely fell to the first. Four older brothers shaped and defined Dmitry’s childhood, and never knowing any different, he was content and happy. As far as he was concerned, theirs was a perfectly normal upbringing. It never seemed to do him any harm, at least, and perhaps thanks to the four perspectives of his brothers, Dmitry grew up to be much more well adjusted and capable than some wolves who had two parents to raise them.
◯ In adolescence, he was prone to wander, liking to explore and meet new faces. In this way he began to make friends in their numbers - often the fair weather sort, but that suited Dmitry and his short attention span just fine. He was young when Amuun was killed, and the gravity of it seemed lost on him, even as it seemed to be the final straw that drove his father from family to near stranger.
◯ Dmitry had been well sheltered from Malaysia’s followers, largely down to his tendency to laugh off stories of spirits and talking trees, so the massacre that split the island in two came as a surprise to him. He did not witness it, but like so many he caught a glimpse of the aftermath, before his eldest brothers ushered him away. Everyone was acting as though what had happened was life-destroying, but as far as Dmitry could tell, it carried on much as normal. All that seemed to change was their borders, so like everything else, he shrugged it off and carried on.
◯ Time passed, and Dmitry seemed to weather each strange new happening as easily as he’d weathered their father’s absence or the sight of blood on sand. It mattered little to him, for it seemed as though things would always be alright in the end. He tried his hand at each of the trades in the pack then known as Tundes, but nothing ever seemed to stick, unable to hold his attention for long. As always, the unaspirational Dmitry was unbothered.
◯ The death of Osirus marked the biggest change in his life. Not because the pack divided into three, but because the family did. Although he held no resentment for the brothers who wandered - Fiachara to Stonehaven and Lorenzo to Taika - Dmitry would come to miss them, notably more than he’d ever missed his absent father or the mother he hardly knew. He himself always went with the flow, and as the majority of the family were flowing to Skydas, he did too. After all, he’d never really developed any opinions of his own, or thought a great deal about the future. He didn’t need to! That was the job of his older brothers.
◯ Skydas seemed to eventually prove itself a good choice, and Dmitry settled back into a life which was easy and comfortable.
