45 kilometers from Karakura

Installation 0 “The Greater Ark”

Ava walked up to the remains of the fallen Jackals and looked closely at their armor and weapons, she then removed the helmet of one of them to get a closer look.

“What is it,” asked Jacqueline as she approached Ava looking around for any more potential threats.

“The three here all look vastly different,” said Ava who was a little confused by what she was seeing “I though the different races of Kig-Yar worked in separate units.”

“Yeah, that's definetly a Ruuhtain,” said Jacqueline as she looked down at the body, feeling that the area was pretty secured by now, “and the leader there looks to be a T'vaoan.”

“What does it mean,” asked Ava.

“Well the Covenant Empire is particularly racist,” explained Jacqueline as she lifted the helmet off of another Jackal, “this a Ibie'shan, they never mix with the Ruuhtain and T'vaoan in the same ship, yet a lone the same unit. This are independent, most likely pirates. Look over there too, the weapons are heavily modified.”

“How did they get on the Ark,” said Ava knowing that the slipspace veil prevent any unwanted ships from entering the system.

“They must have a small ship, most likely piggy backed on a larger ship.”

“The Swords recently brought back a CSO-Class super carrier from the Euler-System,” commented Ava, “probably had piggy backed on that ship.”

“Yeah, no wonder HIGH COMM wants to move the Veil Gate further away form the Ark,” said Jacqueline as she reached behind her back to grab Ava's assault rifle that she left behind. She flipped the rifle around and handed it to Ava.

“Thanks, what now,” asked Ava as she looked around that area.

“Well, we didn't find the other team, so they might still be out there,” said Jacqueline as she checked her scanner, “Interference is greatly reducing the range, but I am picking up some UNSC IFFs just over there.”

“Let's move out then,” responded Ava as she looked around the forest for any signs of friend or foe.

FORT DESTINY

“Alright Commander, please lift your right arm and gently make a fist,” said the Technician.

“I don't understand why ONI is determining our Armor customizations this time around,” said Commander Hamm as he followed the technician's instruction.

“Well technically Material Research choose our armor, ONI ordered us to follow it,” said Alan as he picked up the AA/Variant Helmet and looked it over. The helmet that he picked up was the one that he had been issues like all the other Spartans in Delta Team, but was equipped with special sensors to help him preform his marksman duties.

“I do have to admit, that the Air Assault helmet is a good brain bucket,” said Hamm as he lowered his arm, “but why does Vash get to have a different one, compared to the rest of us.”

“Because Vash didn't participate in the Mark VII program, they let him pick whatever he wanted,” said Alan as he placed his helmet back on the table.

“What,” said Hamm as he took a step forward in discontent. When the Commander did this, the cables that were hooked up to his suit followed him and caused two technicians to fall over.

“Sorry about that,” said Hamm looking back at the technicians.

“Yeah, I know not fair,” said Alan, “But looking at the bright side of things, these armor customizations will theoretically make us operate at maximum efficiency.”

“Although I figure you'd have chosen something different,” said Commander Hamm as he relaxed back into position for the techs to complete their work.

“Yeah, I would, but you know what UNSC Regs say.”

“I know, armor customization shouldn't be based on appearances, but functionality,” finished Hamm.

“You're done for now Commander,” said Technician, “You won't need to use the Brokkr to take off your armor, they are all equipped with a quick donning system like your Mark VIIs.”

“Thank You,” said Commander Hamm as he hit a button on his armor to cause front plate of his armor to loosen. He grabbed the piece and set it down on the table were it originally laid and then turned around and hit the locks to cause the rear piece of armor to fall on the table alongside its counter part.

As Commander Hamm slid out of the techsuit of his MJOLNIR armor system, Alan proceeded to the Brokkr armor mounting system in the room and placed his feet and hands into it. The system quickly spun him around mounting the various armor pieces to the techsuit that he was wearing.

“Kinda nice that we just need to do this once,” said Alan as he stepped out of the contraption.

“Almost, occasionally you'll need to remove your armor pieces for maintenance,” corrected the Tech, “But on a day to day routine, getting in and out of your armor will be quick.”

“I can see some of Linda's armor elements in this,” commented Alan as he stepped into the calibration area.

“Not surprising,” said Roy, as walked over to a case that was brought in from one of the Pelicans, “You and her share the same specialty, and you two have a bit of a friendly competition going on.”

“Yeah, call it kinda like a Master-Pupil thing going on,” said Alan with a smirk on his face.

“Master-Pupil,” said Roy calling out Alan, “You two don't have that relationship.”

“Yeah, but you consider Fred to be one of your mentors,” argued Alan.

“Because Fred actually mentored me to be Spartan Leader, just like Edward Buck did for me as a Helljumper,” rebuttal Roy, “When's the last time you actually talked to Linda?”

“Well she doesn't talk much,” answered Alan, “But we do spend a decent amount of time at the range when we are both at the same station.”

“Yeah, but do you guys talk and does she teach you anything,” questioned Roy.

“No, we mainly just shoot,” answered Alan.

“Sounds more like a friendly competition amongst peers, then a mentorship,” responded Roy.

“Maybe,” said Alan not fully accepting Alan's conclusion.

Roy opened the crate that he had walked over to, which contained his customized weapons. He pulled out his heavily customized BR85 that he favored for most missions due to its versatility.

“When will the armor be ready to be deployed in the field,” asked Roy as placed his Battle Rifle on a nearby table.

“Won't be ready for another ten days commander,” answered the Tech, “and that is if the calibrations take perfectly, which they rarely do.”

“Well at least we have our guns,” added Alan as he raised his legs and arms as instructed by the technician.

“Yeah, but even if the armor was ready for deployment we couldn't wear them in our next few missions,” responded Roy.

“Don't worry I checked with the tech's CO, they have the clearance,” said Roy wanting Alan to know that he could speak freely.

“Why doesn't the mission commander not want us using MJOLNIR armor,” asked Alan.

“We are going to the Outer Arm,” answered Roy trying to see if Alan had actually read his intel briefing.

“So the Setesh,” responded Alan, talking about the alien empire that resided in the Outer Arm.

“Yeah, and HIGH COMM doesn't want them to fully realize how advance our power armor really is,” said Roy as he search around the stack of crates were he found his rifle. Finding the crate he was looking for, he grabbed it and brought it to the table where his rifle was lying.

“So we are going to be very handicapped then,” said Alan concern about the situation.

“Not really,” responded Hamm as he opened the crate and pulled out an ODST BDU.

“That looks new,” commented Alan noticing the condition of the armor.

“It is, very new,” said Roy commenting on the new armor, “New armor from Materials.”

“Update of the our old BDUs,” asked Alan wanting to know more.

“Very much,” said Roy with a smile, “think of this is a MJOLNIR lite.”

“How so,” asked Alan who was intrigued.

“It has force multiplying and reactive circuits design to be used with augmented and non-augmented individuals,” explained Roy, “and we have one for all of the Spartans and Liyet.”

“Oh, very nice,” said Alan, “ I assuming it has limited energy shields?”

“Yes, we were able to place a very compact micro fusion reactor and coupled with a high efficiency shield system,” said Roy with a little bit of pleasure, “We won't be doing anything crazy like we would in our armor, but it should prevent us from dying from a sniper aiming for our head.”

“When do we leave for our first mission,” asked Alan.

“Probably in the next two days, they already have one on the board for us,” said Roy, “They are considering us as currently deployed with Ava and Jack being in the field right now.”

“Yeah, investigating that interference,” Alan said as the armor technicians continued to make adjustments to his armor, “What do you think it was?”

“I don't know, probably nothing,” said Roy as he shifted through his gear.
