Description XXXX: "It took a while but we've finally managed to make the Jedi see that we had nothing to do with Palpatines plot. They sent us copies of the recordings yesterday"
////: "You'll have to catch me up, I literally just got back"
XXXX: "Hmm? Oh, right, sorry. Been a bit wrapped up in this, forgot you've been out of touch for a while"Β
////: "I did manage to skim through the report you sent on the ride up though so I've got a rough idea of what happened but you know me, I love the details"
XXXX: "Well we know this happened across the galaxy and we know most of what occurred out there. Helmet cams, drone footage, satellite coverage and so on but those were either executions or arrests. What we didn't know was what the 501st were doing in the temple for the ten hours before the Coruscant Guard and the Special Operations Brigade retook it. Well, the ones that hadn't defected"
////: "Ten hours? Even searching every single room, maintenance tunnel and crawlspace it wouldn't take them ten hours. So what were they doing? Didn't we get anything from the fallen troopers helmet systems?"
XXXX: "Nothing. Their recordings were all corrupted or erased completely. We think some kind of dead mans switch. Real professional work but thanks to what's left of the council we now have an idea of what they were doing in there"
////: "Well don't keep me in suspense, spill"
XXXX: "They were searching for something. Information and holocrons containing huge amounts of Jedi and Sith knowledge going back centuries, maybe even millennia. If what we're hearing about Palpatine being a Sith lord is true, then that info must have been pretty important to him"
////: "The recordings show the Jedi archives? Wow, we've been trying to get access to them for... pfff forever"
XXXX: "Nope, the recordings show most of what happened inside the temple but they aren't stupid, they didn't give us anything sensitive. We pieced it together from various feeds. Several squads bypassed the most heavily populated areas and headed straight for the records, libraries and archives. This was planned well in advance"
////: "I wouldn't be surprised if they've done practice runs and drilled for this. Alright, let's have a look at this footage, there's got to be more to this than what we're seeing"
XXXX: "Brace yourself. It's... It's pretty grim. Seems like these boys have been waiting a while to execute order sixty six"
////: "Fierfek... Emphasis on execute"
xxxx: "Told you. Completely ruthless and brutal. If I were you I'd avoid the folder marked-"
////: "Oh my god! They're not soldiers, they're kriffing animals!"
XXXX: "Animals don't take trophies. Animals don't use flamethrowers on children"
////: "I thought I'd seen the worst this galaxy had to offer... fierfek, tell me we got them all"
XXXX: "Wish I could but they pulled out before we retook the temple. They left a contingent behind to continue the slaughter but most of them were cut down by the surviving Jedi when the Coruscant Guard and the Special Ops teams showed up. They're out there and we have no idea where"
////: "Alright, where do we start?"
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

I hope nobody gets upset. I know a few of the people who look at my work love the 501st and they might not appreciate how they're depicted here, however, they didn't earn the reputation as "Vader's fist" by being polite and delicate. Start as you mean to go on and all that.

I was a bit hesitant to upload this. Usually I try to show soldiers doing stuff other than fighting, show that they're people, plus it's not all firefights and explosions and there's plenty of better quality work showing that. It could have been worse though, I could've shown you what they saw in the rest of the footage.Β

Love the dialogue man, can’t wait to hear what happens next! Also, quick question, do 501st become the first stormtroopers in your universe?

Thanks yeah, right after the massacre at the temple the troopers that pulled out rendezvous with the rest of the legion at a covert "Empirical" facility and receive their stormtrooper kit and weaponry

I think this is interesting to consider, and possibly a more likely outcome in the Legends continuity (e.g., no brain chips): that fewer Jedi would have ended up dead than Palpatine hopes.Β  A very compelling frame for a story.Β  Definitely curious about where the 501st go from here, too.

That was one of the major things that put me off the new clones wars/star wars continuity. Brain chips implanted to make sure they follow orders? Why not just buy a droid army and be done with it? So much cheaper and easier to maintain than an army of living, breathing people that require food, sleep and exercise to stay in peak condition.

I've no plans for the 501st at the moment but, like in the legends continuity, I imagine they'll be eager to prove to Palpatine that they're committed to the cause and more than willing to take on any threat to his plans. Breathtaking brutality and scorched earth tactics should do the job. They may pop up in a picture in the future and they are so fun to draw/write

I'm in complete agreement about the brain chips.Β  It does not make for compelling storytelling at all.

This does seem like it was a fun project - hope you get more ideas for the 501st.

Order 66 is one of those episodes that I feel shows that the Jedi weren’t always the β€œgood” guys they’re often made out to be. Their lack of attachment and emotion may help them avoid the dark side but it often makes them horrible with relationships and thinking from others perspectives, something essential in war. The Jedi got a lot of clones killed by poor military tactics and strategies during the Clone Wars, and never forgot that. When 66 came down, many clones would have seen it as justified payback for the shite the Jedi put them through. Even if some clones had chosen to spare their Jedi generals due to their good relationships with them, the Jedi Order would have been devastated. War makes good men into monsters, and Order 66 is an example of that.

That's how I've been trying to tell this story (I am biased in favour of the troopers no matter whether or not they went through with order 66) some of the troopers resent being used as canon fodder by people who have no idea how to lead or fight a war, but some realise that the Jedi went from being keepers of the peace to military generals overnight and had no time to learn and prepare for the role before being put in charge or an army.

On the other side of it, there are some Jedi who do care about the troopers, some that do know a thing or two about tactics and warfare and a few who can step back and say "I have no idea what i'm doing so i'll let the guys who've been training their entire lives for just this situation take the lead" And then there are the Jedi who view the troopers as little more than droids, as means to an end, throw enough of them at the problem and it'll get solved one way or another kind of leaders. Those Jedi didn't last long when the order came down

I must admit that I'm way out of my depth with this whole thing though. I'm trying use my very limited skills to show that these are all people and they are all complex and flawed and no two are alike, Jedi or clone. I hope it's still fun to read/look at.

It wasn't as successful as Palpatine had hoped, a lot of Jedi died but not enough to give him the advantage. Let's say roughly a third of all Jedi across the galaxy were killed in the temple raid or by clones on the various battlefields. Some troopers just arrested or detained any Jedi they found either because they didn't believe the Jedi were enemies of the republic or they couldn't confirm the order to make sure it wasn't a Separatist trick. Some of them thought "hold up, we're in the middle of a battle and wasting someone that's also in the shit with us and is doing everything they can to stop us all getting killed would be a bad idea. Let's wait until the shooting stops and then we'll see" but by then the Chancellor's bailed and nobody has a clue what's going on.

Interesting, so what's the timeline going from here, is Anakin still evil? Does he still get betrayed by the high-ground?

I haven't put much thought into it so this is all made up on the fly.

I'd say he's still not made up his mind. He wants the power to save Padme but he realises massacring a temple full of innocents and children isn't the way to get it. Marching in and killing a couple of fellow Jedi won't just go away so he takes off and tries to find the power he's after on his own. Occasionally siding with Palpatine or the Republic, depending on which side of him is winning at the time and what he can get from the situation.

As for the high ground? He knows he's got skill but there are some things you don't fuck with like time travel or super smart Ai and definitely not the high ground.

So Anakin becomes a grey Jedi and only sides with whichever side grants him the most benefits at the given time... now for the big question... what about Padme?

Oh none of that "she just gives up and dies" bullshit. She has the babies no problem, the team of fully qualified medical staff and state of the art medical equipment make sure of that. She'd still be at the senate doing whatever they do when they're not being kidnapped or shot at.

Maybe they do still go ahead with hiding them children or maybe she raises them? No idea the further it gets from troopers the less I've thought about itΒ

So where's Anakin in all this? Just hiding away trying to "save" his wife and children, even though Padme dieing in childbirth was what he feared? Is he and Padme still in touch?

halonut117 In reply to TinkerTanker44432 [2019-09-01 02:43:32 +0000 UTC]

In some kind of self imposed exile, his head's a mess after all that. He doesn't know what to do, where to go, just that he hasΒ  to "save" Padme but now that he doesn't have Palpatine constantly whispering in his ear he isn't sure if he has to.

I imagine they'd try to contact each other at some point but it'd be tense. He tried to kill her and he can't believe he could do something like that and has no idea how or if he can make it right. She isn't sure if he should know about the twins unless he tries to hurt her or them again. They're both out of their depth and neither knows what to do.Β

So Anakin and Obi-wan fought on Mustafar, but Anakin didn't get injured? Basically Episode III happens, just Anakin isn't turned to Darth Vader and goes into self-imposed exile, the Jedi Order isn't wiped out, but a large number of Jedi still die, Clone Trooper still Loyal follow Palapatin, though a vast majority of the GAR is loyal to the Republic... Is the droid shut down order sent, and what not?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

halonut117 In reply to TinkerTanker44432 [2019-09-02 00:47:33 +0000 UTC]

Not to the extent he did in the movie, Obi Wan cut his prosthetic hand off again and gave him a few more scars but Anakin's still got all his remaining limbs and only minor burns from fighting through a volcano world, as does Kenobi. I do like the idea of Darth Vader being the emperors rabid dog that he lets loose when people don't fall in line so maybe he's cloned Anakin and kitted him out in a version of the armour that doesn't make him walk like a robot, let's him fight as well as Anakin can and allows him to turn his head.

In this version not every Separatist leader went to Mustafar from Utapau due to some of them having lost faith in Sidious and his plans. A couple did go but once they saw the unstable looking fellow in the Jedi robes walk in they realised something was wrong and made a run for it. Some actually managed to make it to their ships thanks to them bringing way more droids, just in case, which slowed Anakin down long enough for them to flee. Once they saw that their mysterious leader was willing to slaughter them they decided that shutting down their droid armies was a very bad idea so now they're all fighting each other. GAR, Separatists, the "Empire" are all at each other's throats.
