Description This was my first attempt to make speculums, which are sheets of metal that have been hammered and formed into tubes. Ok horrible explanation but oh well, I made two very small speculums out of copper then bent them into crescent shapes, the accent wire is made out of silver and the stone in the center is a peacock crystal. This was a hard piece to do for some reason, can I just say, speculums are stubborn little suckers.

yay! that's great, keep playing with it, if you take a old stump of soft wood like..um.. fir is a good one, you can make it into a good forming surface for spiculums. It's a lot cheaper then getting spiculum forming stakes. If you try one you will have to tell me how it turned out.

haha no you have to try one they are so useful in the jewelry world If your teacher does not know how to make one and you still want to learn get the book The Complete Metalsmith: Professional Edition by Tim McCreight. It is a bit expensive but totally worth the price.

I reeeeally like this. The weathered look of the metal really sets of the brilliance of the stone. The juxtaposition is great!

Yeah this was such a pain to do. Thanks for input about the chain, I think it will work nicely.
