Description Napi: The creator, the teacher, the trickster

Etched recycled Copper and duck feathers

Napi was the great creator in blackfoot mythology and he had many stories to tell. He wandered among the people that he created from the wet earth, teaching them the ways of the world, and getting into more trouble then he could handle. He trapped mischievous mice inside pinecones, frightened the aspens to eternally tremble, and had the great misfortune of getting his eyes stuck to a tree after disregarding the chickadee’s warning.

Napi is one of my favorite characters in legend, mostly because he was powerful, but not really all knowing. Most of what he created was by pure accident and although wise, he had moments where he got himself into quite a pickle. I can relate to this character in the fact that a lot of my creations just sort of happen by happy accident. I enjoy starting to work with the metal and let it evolve from there letting the piece just emerge from working and reworking the design.
