Why do we march?
This seems to be a question
Plaguing many
Who don’t have feelings of trepidation
And can’t seem to come to some summation
For this
Our current situation.
Tonight I stand here
I can tell you
I can’t bear
This demanded silence
I can’t stand by
And mind my business
Grit my teeth
Hum a happy toon
While we are being told
To shove a Ibuprofen up in there
Cross our legs
And put on a happy face.
No!
We as women
As warriors of a multitude
Of generations
Will scream long
Into this 730 days of night
And we will fight
To keep from going back
Where we bore babies
Into the double digits
Where we had no
Bodily autonomy
Where we popped
Out kids into our death beds
With no right to scream
STOP!
Where we feared
For our safety
For the good name of our family
And risked everything
Going into a back alley
Only to never come out!
No!
We will not go back
We will march on
For the love of those
Sisters
Yet to come.
