Description
Because I was absent so long I'll double post. Feels good to get back into digital art after a week of just sketchbook stuff.I was reading a book about samurai so I got inspired to draw one. I thought about drawing Gavin but I haven't done fan art in a while, so I drew Shimazu from the anime Drifters instead. It's kinda funny since I drew him a really long time ago when I first made my account, but this time he looks kinda different. Much more angry. But he's still got that head fetish lol
I tried to be experimental on the background this time, I used the brush but also the pen. Half the time I was drawing it I had no idea what I was doing (especially on the sky. I just made random strokes until it looked alright,) but it turned out okay I think. Kinda cool how you can see all those brushstrokes as skeleton parts. A fraction of the work for a similar result, sounds good for someone lazy like me.
How's my color theory and contrast? Good, bad? Need something changed? Help me out and tell me!Β

This is really good~! You got this monochrome red theme thing going on, and I really like how he's got the two flags behind him like that. ^w^

Thanks! I really like using reds, they give off a nice feel. They also go really well with black, which I knew I wanted to use from the beginning. So yeah, that's how the background happened.
The two flags thing was a spur of the moment decision, I thought it would be cool to put them up if he just won a battle or something. But yeah, thanks!

Wow! Badassery!
What? No way, I thought Iβm the only lazy artist here, did I influence you, oh dear...
No, I would not call this art lazy. No no no...
BTW, Awesome use of red shades. This image is so dark and grim yet awesome!

Oh yeah yeah! You have my thanks. We lazy artists must rise up! I think you did influence me a little, you made me remember to work smarter, not harder. Getting rid of lineart was one of the best decisions I've ever made. It's annoying to have to draw something twice, plus if you make a mistake on it it's tedious to fix. But with color, you can just draw over it or erase the extra parts. Now that's what I call noiceΒ Β
Red and black are one of my favorite color combinations, they just go so well together in my opinion. I think that this is the first time I did that without the result being too dark, so that's good. Dark and grim indeed. If you ever wondered what I think of on a daily basis, it's stuff like this lol. I can't help it, things like this is what I find to be cool xD

A dark and powerful piece indeed. I like the flags, outfit and symmetry. He is seated in a position of power. This is clear from the skulls at his feet (good technique, I agree, quite effective to get more with less). Good shadows on face, especially near his eyes, it heightens the grimness. For color and contrast, maybe strengthen the yellow portions of the sky with a blended brush and with dodge tool? This will make the sunlight gleam through the clouds. And maybe add lighter shades on back of his shoulders to show the sunlight effect. Good work on hair texture, he has quite the flowing mane of hair.Β

Thanks! The symmetry thing is something I've been trying to do for years now. My drawings would always slant to one side, so doing symmetry was near impossible. But now I think my eyes have gotten to the point where I can see the mistakes! I'm glad it turned out alright.
I'm really liking the eye shadow thing haha. Ever since I realized that the skull makes a shadow there, I've been kinda spamming it lol. What can I say, it looks really cool. I was originally not going to draw his eyes at all, but I decided that it would make it better if I did.
I see what you mean about the sky, I'll make sure to add more highlights next time. You're also right about the shoulder thing too! Funnily enough I was planning on adding it when I started coloring but it took so long that I forgot all about it lol.Β And I'm glad about the hair texture, I've always struggled with hair so it's good to see I'm going in the right direction.

Kudos that you pulled off the symmetry without using the software's mirroring tool - good eyeballing skills! Good point on the eye shadow, it is anatomically correct. Yeah, I also forget sometimes to add enhancements or corrections before finalizing a piece. It is partly my laziness, forgetfulness and partly due to being in a rush to publish the content sooner! Keep up the good work.
