Description The North Atlantic Project master plan

*A very brief description of some of Rapture's areas. Be reminded that this isn't all strictly canon.*

Welcome Centre

This was the first thing that new citizens of Rapture would encounter. Newcomers would first have passed through the quarantine and screening facilities, perhaps before staying in the adjoining hotel for a few nights if deemed necessary. After clearance, arrivals would experience their first taste of the city's decadent life by passing through into the Welcome Centre's nearby entertainment complex, which featured clubs, restaurants and a theatre, as well as postal facilities, a scale model of the city, an information centre and a transport hub.

Medical Pavilion

Rapture's ideals being based on the free market, the Medical Pavilion was as much a teeming breeding ground of private enterprise as the rest of the city. Owing to Rapture's uniquely liberal laws concerning medical practice and other schools of study, the city's medical facilities provided a high standard of healthcare for those who could afford such luxuries. What's more, a Dr Steinman provided revolutionary cosmetic surgery at his practice, Aesthetic Ideals.

Arcadia

Effectively a park beneath the ocean, Arcadia was Rapture's lungs, both in terms of providing much-needed open space for the city's 22,000 residents and in the literal sense, in that it provided the oxygen which was pumped to every corner of the metropolis. Also adjoining Arcadia was 'land' allocated for food production, which was sold by producers at the nearby Rapture Farmer's Market.

Fort Frolic

Serving as both the main shopping hub and the arts centre of Rapture, Fort Frolic prided itself as a place where the artist would truly not have to fear the censor (or be bound by petty morality). Featured in the complex was Rapture's centrepiece music hall and theatre, the Fleet Hall and a large selection of boutiques, clubs, galleries and other retail and leisure outlets.

Hephaestus

Cleverly harnessing the heat from Geothermal vents on the ocean floor, Hephaestus was the main power source for Rapture and was one of the first parts of the city constructed during the first phase of building. Also adjoining was the central control and private offices of Andrew Ryan.

Residential Areas

The Residential areas were mostly made up of high rise structures linked by streetcar, through glass tunnels which formed 'streets' which linked the buildings to a central hub, or square. Among these developments were Apollo Square, Olympus Heights and Athena's Glory.
