The thing to remember is that there are quite a lot of younger and/or less technologically inclined people here who can and occasionally do say things like that and need help - to assume that someone is playing a trick would be to do someone who really needs help a disservice so it's always best to work from the basis that the person in question is serious and needs help.
If you were really serious about something and people took you to be joking or trolling how would you feel? You wouldn't be very happy that's for sure.

I've done a lot of helpdesk stuff on another site over the years and you'd be amazed at the questions people ask - I've given up being even slightly surprised. One thing I have learnt is that nothing is so normal that it goes without saying when it comes to computers/technology - what I think is normal someone else will almost certainly find to be far too complicated to even try, mostly due to inexperience.

Did you write this to the support desk for DA? Yeah......bless their hearts, but they can't do much with trollers. I mean, they can ban people if there's enough evidence (and by enough I mean A LOT and really bad things like stealing or threats, that kinda thing), but not much else. Many trolls just make a new account and continue on their sad pathetic attention-seeking way.
The best way, really, is to ignore them, don't reply. Memorize their icon, if you can, so you recongize it and just know it's just the trolls spitting their normal junk. Some people, both in my group and other people who try to stop trollers, think that trolling the trolls help. Personally, I think that just makes it worse UNLESS they're the type of people who enjoy a good fight. Me, I don't, so I don't really do that. It's up to you what you want to do.

Technically, though, you can't memorize an icon, for everyone's subject to change theirs eventually; I happen to know a deviant who changes his icon every 5 seconds! Yet, he is a troll, so I wouldn't worry too much.
Bottom line, I can ignore trolls; art thieves, on the other hand, are a serious issue, and my main concern is DA enabling it.

Art theives are god-awful, especially when they add lurid crap to it. The only thing I can really think of, and I'm not sure how to do it myself, is to add a watermark. I know some artists who can and do that, and it seems to help.
And you're right about the icon. 
I know DA tries to stop theives. I've seen it happen a couple of times through the Anti-Troll Squadron and such. If a number of DA members report the same theif, it usually get's through faster. Although sadly, there's no promises.
