This experiment would have made me quiet upset if it had failed, because not only was the set up a complete nightmare, but I also got seriously soaked and ruined my clothes.When I saw the result on my screen it reminded me of E.T. and a UFO in the background, hence the title.

It is a species of orchid. There are many, like Pink Lady Slippers which are found only in a small spot in New England and which are considered highly endangered because they can ONLY exist where the soil has the particular kind of fungus growing under the ground which the Lady Slipper feeds on. Growing orchids and collecting them is a highly developed hobby, and collectors of orchid species are rabid about them. I like flowers myself, but growing orchids as a hobby...not for me. However, the literary character Nero Wolfe was an orchid collector, so I read about this obsession quite a bit...

Quiet interesting. I only saw this orchid once in my yard ( when I took the picture) unless I failed to pay attention in the years after. I will look out for it this year, hopefully it will grow again. It's an interesting looking plant.

Its an orchid, and quite rare to see as these usually only bloom underground. They are parasitic plants so light isn't crucial to them. You might have noticed (while you getting soaked) a really lovely scent. The way I usually find these orchids is by smelling them first, then finding their underground lair. Their odor is quite unusual and sweet.

What a beautiful piece! The rain drops are astounding. And great concept. Just in case you were wondering or did not know, That's an Indian Pipe. It's a parasitic color-less flower that takes nutrients from other plants, especially specific trees like beeches I think.

I love the rain in this. And that thing almost looks like a fish. Do you ever take shots of your setup or no? I'd love to see that.

I never did, it would be real hard to take a shot of a set up in the rain though since that is so fast paced I would have no time to actually take a shot of it. Maybe if some one is around who can take a quick one of the set up while I do it , then it will work.
