I gasp a small bit and approach her. She looked so broken, but I had heard the news say something along the lines of 'if you see a neera, don't hesitate to squish it crush it. They are reproducing at a fast rate, and the World Health Organisation has labeled them a pest that needs controlling'. After not being able to make up my mind, I get a glass jar from my cabinet and gently place her inside, closing the lid and bringing her to my living room. I sit the glass on my coffee table and look at her.

Keiko looked from left to right, as if that would give her a solution as to what she should do with her. Should she just kill her and... Wait... Her cough sounded a lot like a nekos cough. Keiko thought they only squeaked! She puts her finger into the container and pokes her a little

She stumbles back a little and groaned

Keiko withdrew her hand and looked in again. She decided she wanted to study the creature a small bit, and to do that she'd need her alive. She stood up and went into her kitchen. She grabbed a small plastic cup and cut it with scissors and filled it up with water, so she could drink. Next, she got a small piece of ham and went back to the neera. She placed the food and water in front of her.

She went right for the water and started drinking

Keiko watched her drink. The way she drank almost looked exactly how a neko drank!

Keiko wondered and tried something. She lifted the water out of the container to see what she would do. Would she look for more water like an animal or try and get the water she lifted like a person?

Keikos ears perked up and she instinctively reached her hand in to make sure she was OK. She lifted her out of the container and placed her in the palm of her hand

Keiko was convinced. This wasn't a pest. It acted more neko than bug or rodent, despite its appearance. Keiko didn't know if they carried diseases or not, but regardless and since it was already touching her, she pets its back. "shhh its OK" she says quietly and softly

Keiko has to compose herself. She needed to priorities things. First, she calms down and hands her a small bit of ham. "here, you look hungry" she says

"T-thank you" she takes it and starts to eat

"keiko, my names keiko" she says, sighing. "so, what uh, what were you doing on my kitchen counter?"

She frowned and looked down "I was looking for water. I used to live next door with my family until the exterminators came"

"what happened?" keiko asks, kinda already knowing the answer. She just hopes she's wrong

Images of the holocost flooded into keikos mind. She felt awful for her, having her parents ripped from her. "I'm... So sorry" she says, her ears flattening.

Keiko feels like a monster, making her relive her parents death. She lightly pets her side. "hey, it's OK... If you'd like, I can take care of you." she says without thinking.
