Infinity Train is a series I’ve always heard of ever since the pilot got picked up. I was always busy with other junk so I never watched the actual series until Book 2 was finished. I couldn’t wait to begin bingeing this show as I thought it would be amazing and among my favorite shows on Cartoon Network.

Infinity Train in general is a “cool” show. It has so many cool locations and mysteries within the infinity train to make the show worthwhile. Every season introduces a new cast of characters onboard the train and they all have distinct personalities creating a new interesting story arc to tell. This show’s animation and music is endearing making the atmosphere and tone overall really solid. Book 1 was great and the topic on divorce was presented really well. The storytelling was really good. Sadly it goes downhill from there.

Book 2 pales a lot from Book 1. In this chapter there are a few times where the show can be uninteresting, flat out stupid, and have predictable moments. Book 1 had a few of these problems but they were nowhere near as common as this one. Book 2 was slow paced, ending was anticlimactic, and the story was not engaging until the final episodes. This Book did get better but it took too long to get good. But hey at least it's not Book 3!

Because Book 3 actually kinda sucks! Ironically enough, this season is kinda like the opposite of Book 2. Started off alright but declined later down the line. Infinity Train always used the 11 minute format but here is where it really needed to change that. Because some episodes really needed more runtime to settle in and give more information (we didn’t get Simon’s backstory in this season lul). Simon is an awful character. After the start of the season he can jump from side to side, go from being chill... to a psycho at any given time without clear translation. This mostly implies for episodes 5-10. His characterization is handled so poorly and since he is one of the main characters it damages this season a LOT. Even when there are moments without the terrible writing with Simon it still has the lameness that was found in episodes 1-7 of Book 2. I think it's safe for me to say that this season is WEAK and the ending was contrived, cheap, and forced.

Well, now that the fourth and final season is out, how did it turn out? Not good… at all. Min-Gi and Ryan are bland and uninteresting characters. The show tries to dive deeper into these characters with more context to their past but it's not good enough when their attitude are so inconsistent and change in every other episode. Their brotherly bond in this chapter is horrendous. They fight a lot and there’s so much annoying bickering in the early episodes. Hm, you know what they remind me of? They remind me of the bad characterization bullshit that book 3 pulled off. All the new characters are lame, the stakes in this season are on a low level and it's really hard to tell that this is the final season (I know this isn’t the show’s fault for its cancellation but still). The show ended on a huge whimper by having a su tier ending with Kez saying “sorry” and everyone just gets by with it. It’s so unbelievably bad that it looks like it's trying to make it be a huge joke. So yeah, this is the show’s worst yet and also the most unremarkable, sad note to end it on.

Overall this show is… MEH. Book 1 is the only real good season while the rest suck to some extent. The show never lets me down with the amount of creativity they use to tell a story in each season. Sure, most of the stories aren’t huge winners for me but I still appreciate what they were going for, which was why I always had hope for this series even when it was sinking in quality. This show is just wasted potential. Had good ideas but bad execution in the stories past Book 1.
