I do feel that it clashes a bit with the background, though I'm not sure if that's the lighting that is making it a bit harsh on the eyes?
The positioning is fantastic and I really like the way the colours complement each other, anyway. I think it's great how you've managed to create quite a light atmosphere all in all, although his expression is a bit dodgy. o.O

Yes, you may be right. I remember taking this when I first got some studio lights (nothing fancy, mind) so that may have played a part in the brightness/harshness.
