The flat area that has the little wild shading... ghhh, so nice. I always love when you have more abstracted areas paired with the rendered faces. Lookit that subtle bit of shading around that cuff, HOT DAMN YES.

Also, Steven omg you hunk o' man you.

It's amazing how much at school we would doodle our way out of boredom during lessons. I wish I did that before I knew I wanted to be a comic artist back when I was a kid. :C Now I'm homeschooled and all the time I want.

Lik the crosshatching and grayscale on this one. Very perfect. :]

Pysch class is the best time to draw. I did it many a time. Critique wise the only thing that's bothering me is the small sillhouette-white triangle under his arm! If that wasn't there and it was all flood fill there, it would make him look a lot more slumped over the bar, and his elbows would look like they're propping him up a bit more. O:

And that's really the only useful thing I could think of! I love your sketches tons.

heysawbones In reply to ghibli92 [2010-09-19 04:25:32 +0000 UTC]

I'm actually working on the comic right now, ha ha, it's supposed to launch in November!

No, I haven not read Primary Colors! Do you recommend it? As far as political fiction goes - if you like comics, pick up Ex Machina. It's great so far.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ghibli92 In reply to heysawbones [2010-09-19 05:32:43 +0000 UTC]

Ah sweet, I'll be eagerly awaiting it!

Primary Colors is quite interesting: A former campaign worker for Bill Clinton wrote a book heavily based off Bill Clinton's 1992 presidential campaign, under an anonymous name. He uses fictional characters based off of the real life counterparts (Clinton, Hillary Clinton, James Carville, all the other contending democrats in the '92 election). As much as I love Clinton, it really gives you a good look at how disfunctional he is and how crazy a politican campaign can be.

I hate the critique box thing so I'll just put my critique here. First of all, good silhouette and balance of detail/ no detail. At first I didn't like the negative space under the arm but then I realized you used slip like In The Title so yeah. That looks like a slip to me, so good job. The only things that bug me a little:
- his left shoulder's placement and volume looks fine, but I feel like the suit should be bulkier under that shoulder. You know how suits bunch up at the seams.
- Relatedly, his left arm seems a bit too close to his center. I feel like if you're slipping like he is, you'll naturally brace yourself a bit, which would put his elbow to his left (our right) a bit more. Also his elbow is too close to us. If you draw a line from right elbow to left you see the left one is a bit more on the tabletop, which would mean he would have to lean forward more for his cheek to be aligned with his hand. Since he seems centered above his spine, this doesn't make as much sense as to move his elbow back a little. Wow that's a lot of words.
- Some extra darkening of the shirt under where the suit is pushing up? You probably just missed shading that part.

Anyways that's it. Oh yeah, and I also like how the buttons follow the curve of his arm correctly.

The end

Thanks, bro. Fine and fabulous criticism. fine and fabulous. I thought the arm positioning seemed weird too, but couldn't really pinpoint why. If I'd planned the pose better, maybe I could have avoided this. <____>; Or I could have drawn the table lower and not put his arms there dgakhdgkgh regrets

the end!!!

The fact that the surface of the bar seems really high?

slaadfingers In reply to heysawbones [2010-09-17 02:04:55 +0000 UTC]

His left arm does seem a little shorter than the other, and I'm not sure why they're positioned that way in the first place. It looks a little unnatural.
