I hate writing training stories T_T

Ethan had originally purchased Shapeshifter as an eventing prospect, but as time passed the stallion had shown more talent in the jumper ring than in the dressage arena. Despite all of his efforts, Ethan just could not get Shifter to excel in dressage. Instead of trying to force it, he instead focused on developing his jumping.
Aleia and Azreth both stood at the fence of the large outdoor jumping ring to watch one of their training sessions. Spring time at Hollowbrooke was always the best time for training, as the weather was neither too warm or too cold. Everyone tried to get the most out of this time of year before the summer turned hot and humid, and Ethan had been riding Shifter outside almost every other day for the past few weeks.
"Are you going to push it today?" Azreth called over to Ethan as he cantered the grey and black horse around the track of the arena. Shifter was feeling spicier than usual, and was currently tossing his head and pouncing about.
"Yes! I want to see how high he can go," Ethan called back. He had set three of the jumps in the arena to 3ft, 3.6ft, and 4ft. After warming him up and popping him over the 3ft with ease, Ethan pointed him at the 3.6ft. Once again Shifter popped right over it and playfully bounced around the arena in a canter.
"Take him over the 4ft!" Azreth called. Aleia was more focused on watching Shifter move than paying attention to what was specifically happening, but Azreth was focused more on the team. Ethan changed direction and maneuvered Shifter to the largest jump, and was nearly thrown off balance when the stallion launched himself over it with plenty of room to spare.
Ethan heard gasps from the fence where Azreth and Aleia watched, and took a moment to catch his breath before riding over to them.
"Yep. He can definitely go higher," Ethan laughed.
