I am surprised to see another Cloud hate hint even here. The ‘apology’ made it even more like a joke. Like slapping someone on the face intentionally then apologize.
Honestly, I think the plot and character development of ffiv is not as good as those of ffvii but I am never going to any webpage where others may see and post hate language about any character because I know someone might see it and feel bad about it. It is totally fine to state that someone is your least favorite character but labeling them as "suck" is out of the boundary. In FF iv, the best characterization in my opinion is those of Kain, Tellah and Cid. Cecil's change from a dark knight to a paladin is amazing but lacks transition, and there is very little growth in his personality. But I like him nevertheless not because he looks feminine (in the early version you can't really tell because they were all just pixels) but because his personality fits well with his battle skills and is consistent over the course of plot development. As for ffvii, you see more growth in Cloud and it is amazing how the game slowly unfolds to explain his past mysteries. Cloud is an ordinary person as opposed to Cecil who is the typical hero whose development is legendary but a little bit of a cliche, and it is really the fear and angst of Cloud that make him more like a man that many players can relate to than Cecil as a flawless god-like heroic saint. As to whether the character is overrated, I'd say I have not seen a lot comments rating Cloud himself as the greatest but rather the game as a whole because it has been indeed a huge breakthrough at the time of its release. Although the ff vii combat system is not one of my favorite, I do understand why many people like or even worship it because I myself is a huge fan of turn-based system. Both games have good plots and it is really a personal predilection as to which one is better, as I like both indiscriminately. But if ff iv is not overrated, then there is no way that ff vii is overrated, and I must say, if Cecil is not overrated as a game character, then there is no way that Cloud is because honestly Cecil's characterization is more flat.
Cecil is one of my favorite ff characters, so is Cloud. There are characters from final fantasy series that I like the least, but I keep them only to myself and judge them even-handedly based on their in-game performance and the merits of the games they feature as a whole. There may be characters that I find out of place in the game or hard to operate during battle, but none of those shortcomings will ever lead me to label them as "suck". When it comes to fandom I do have a predilection towards guys because I like boy/boy stuff and it pleases me to fill my imagination with someone else's ideas, but your picture has offended me not as a fangirl but a lover of both final fantasy iv and vii. I feel that those beloved characters are being judged based on face value. For me personally it is hard to not like any protagonist I have played with in ff series because it feels like we together have been through all those challenges and predicaments, and I sometimes do wonder if those haters have played the games enough to say anything about them.

Seriously, you don't know me, I don't know you. I haven't explained enough why I hate Cloud though, and on that part. It is my bad and I must apologize.
Maybe you feel 'suck' is really strong word right? Well, I don't know if I should apologize as English is not my native language. But yes. I hate Cloud. You could say he's my least favorite character ever. I have the moment where I like him. I admit Cloud is more human-like whom the player can relate. And Cecil is a flat character (Kain is far better as a character though)
I think FF4 is overrated, I think FF7 is overrated. Actually I think FF series is overrated. But I am still an FF fan. Believe me, I am a big FF fan who first into this series because of FF7 and I like it the least in the series.
If you feel this meme from 2011 is that offensive to you, go ahead. I don't mind that. I'm not going to apologize at how this meme offended you. But I'll apologize on how I wasn't writing about the reasons why I hate him here.
I'm not even mad at you saying I left the hinting of hatred on Cloud here. Because I DO hate him. I never hide that. No matter how many times you tell me I should keep it to myself, I'll still saying I hate him. I tell everyone I know about how much I hate Cloud, and which part of him I hate, or which part of him I like. With reasons though (just like what you commented here) And come on, face value? Come on--- SERIOUSLY? Are you hinting that I haven't played enough FF!? Oh...I want to laugh... I like Cecil not only because of his face, it is because his kind nature. I do admit the original Cloud in FF7 is my favorite but look at how Cloud progressing. He was OK for me in FF7, still have some humor left, but look at how emo he is in AC. Plus, playing a lot or not doesn't make me like or hate Cloud more.

LOL, you are right, if you look at Ramza at the end of the game in his last outfit, you can tell his outfit is quite tight around the butt! I always wondered why the artists drew him like that. 
I like how Ramza orders milk at the bar instead of alcohol.
The Worker 8 scene is hilarious. Ramza had him dance then knock out Mustadio. Then it's like, "PHOENIX DOWN!"
Doesn't Mustadio like Agrias, too? I think there's a scene in the PSP version (I've only played the PS1 version) where Mustadio celebrates with Agrias her birthday.

Yep, he sure does like her. This birthday scene only appears in the PSP version of Tactics.

Oh, and I have to agree, I probably like FF4 the best (Cecil is my favorite character and the Paladin class is awesome), with FF6 as a close second.
I really like Tina because she is both strong physically and magically, and she's a chick, too! That's rare. Plus, she can equip swords, heavy armor, shields, and her Esper form makes her even stronger. She also has to deal with balancing her human emotions and Esper side.
I do like FFT, though. I never quite understood FFT's story too well, though, since it is really complicated. But the game is fun, Agrias kicks ass, and that's all that matters.
I know people love FF7 since that's when Final Fantasy got really popular, but if you think about it, FF7 is quite depressing. There aren't many cheery and upbeat moments in the game. It's just one objective, chasing Sephiroth, and that's it. Whereas with FF4, FF6, and FFT, there are many goofy and funny moments and various objectives throughout them. Just my opinion, though, and I respect all who like FF7 the best, since it is an excellent game, though.

Cecil and Cloud really are opposites arent they? Cecil starts out angsty, redeems himself, and becomes a strong and confident leader. Cloud starts out a funny and likable, but turns more and more angsty as the game goes on.

I can think of a reason Rydia didn't marry Edge. Because Edge is a chauvinistic prick who told her she'd just get in the way even though she was, at that point A) the only party member who could use black magic B) damn good at it to boot and C) could summon Bahamut. The J2E translation has her respond to that with a warning that she'd castrate him on the spot if he talked to her like that again, and I'd say that's totally justified.
(Haven't played the After Years, don't intend to and don't count it under my personal continuity anyway, so I don't know or care if anything happened in that game to force them into a relationship or something.)
Of course, there's also the possibility that she's too busy crushing on Cecil to notice any possible suitors (Why yes I am a Cecil/Rydia shipper, why do you ask?). I mean, after going through what she's gone through, wouldn't you? (I know I would!)
