This is very helpful, thank you! Question, how did you put the background behind your drawing?

Thanks for the first tutorial on SAI.
Im kind of having trouble in PS. When i try to color the hair. I creatd a new layer for the hair and used the brush tool and the big circle thing...but when i try to color it, the color just seem to color it all and my outlines...it's covered Help. Im still not used to PS.

make sure the color layer is below the lineart layer. this way they dont overlap

Erm, sorry for being utterly stupid, but how do you insert the background?
I try copy and pasting but only a blank white layer appears...

try opening the background first in photoshop then drag it to your artwork.

By step 3 you used something to make shadow. What did you use? when I use the brush tool, it isn't as smooth as I see on your example D:
And when you used the gradient tool, how did you manage to get the right shadow colour?

I used a tablet that is pressure sensitive... you can get the same effect if you use a smudge tool on the brush.
and about the shadow, its just trial and error...

Thank you very much I found out my tablet may not be pressure sensitive, I've got a real old model called WACOM Graphire3 Classic (CTE-430/B0). That one is not pressure sensitive right?

Did you install the tablet driver into the computer you're using??? Because I had the same problem and the description on the box says pressure sensitive and I forgot to install the tablet driver. You should try it and see if it works.

No offense, but you should have them have different skin colors, with is all the same, it looks strange.
