Actually, Sirius is related to Harry
Look up Dorea Black, she is married Charlus Potter. It's not clear HOW Charlus is related to James but I kinda figure it's probably just that Charlus is James' uncle or great uncle, as Dorea was born in 1920 so it's not like she could be Fleamont's grandma or anything
Would this count? I'd say it would, Sirius is hella inbred so he's probably more closely related to James but this is just the only canon relation
Dorea is Sirius' great aunt btw, so if my assumption of her also being James' aunt or great aunt is correct I believe that would make them second cousins once removed
It would at least be enough for Sirius to make it a legal matter, as he would have been pretty adopted by the Potter's (I'm not sure if he was ever legally taken in but I imagine that he must have been to at least an extent for Walburga or child's services not to come and get him) making him James' brother, had Godfathership of Harry and James and Lily having already written documents saying that they wanted him to raise Harry if something ever happened, and an actual blood relation (at worse all he could prove is that they were cousins by marriage, but we both know there's probably a blood relation not to far back up their family lines) so I'd say Sirius would probably get guardianship of Harry- whether or not Remus would be able to is up for debate
But alas I have wasted your time, as the blood spell only works for Lily's relatives, why is this important? Because do you honestly think that Dumbles theory would be enough in court to take Harry away from James if he had survived? Because Dumbles hadn't had a single scrap of evidence for his hypothesis, it was literally just his best guess as to what happened that night, and I don't think that would hold up against Sirius-probably-has-a-spot-in-the-Wizard-court-Black either
Lol anyways I'm just messing around and sharing cool facts about the series not everyone knows, if you can come up with a reason in this au why what I said wouldn't work then feel free to respond so long as you're respectful ๐
