cool, another simple and effective reflections tutorial.
do you know any method of mixing this method with the method you used on the other tutorial? (that one with the green muscle car).
i used that method too, but my reventon is still too dark... and i dont want to loose those reflections too.

Well the one for the green muscle car is for controlling where the reflection hits and is material based, this one is where the reflection comes from and how it shoots out at the model in question, which is object controlled. Since the green one and this one are 2 completely different things, material and object, you can ofcoarse mix them together rather easily. But for the sphere material, you're going to have to use a layer material and put the image and the gradient in the layer(similar to photoshop) and make the gradient layer a multiply effect.

So for the luminace channel for the material that is causing the reflections, put a Layer instead of a Gradient or Image.

Now go into the Layer menu by clicking on the grey/bland preview image, Now open up your image by clicking image. Then after that click on shader and put in the Gradient. Now you should have 2 layers, the gradient and the image below it.

Now click on the gradient preview box, and this should go into it's setup menu. Put the Type to verticle and set the gradient to how I set it up or how you may have done it if you already did the sphere technique. After you're done with that, either hit the back arrow in the material editor(not the undo button), or somehow get back to the layers channel. Now set the Gradient from Normal to Multiply. After you have done that, the preview image should resemble your reflection image with a slow fade to black. Now click on luminance again so you are out of the layers setup menu and back into the standard menu, copy that channel, hopefully you know how since you managed to make a scratch made reventon. Now paste that copy into the color channel. And just apply this material to the sphere/oval/egg and render away, and adjust your car reflection material(fresnel reflection) so you get the best results, Also add a glow filter if you feel that could boost it. Best of luck.

If you are having trouble understanding what I'm typing up, i'll make a video for you as well, just complain...errr..i mean, um..Ask, yeah ask, thats the word, xD.

Well, no I think it's been here for a while, but you needed to get an invite for the deviantart film account to be able to see the film categories. I've had mines for about 3 weeks now but haven't really looked into it. This is the video I used to get the invite, I made it A LONG TIME AGO!:

the funny thing is that, I made that 3 minute animation in 24 hours or so, stayed up like 20 hours modeling, animating it, then spent the last 4 hours rendering it. and sleeping, woke up 26 hours later, went to school and presented my final to the school board. lol. I mean I had like 5 months to do it, but I kept putting it off until the very LAST day! , oh yeah, my cpu for making this was a 400mhz computer. lol.

Yeah I know, Just like getting those non realistic and closer to videogame or vexel type renders. Now if I had some sort of brain that wanted to learn photoshop, I'd be hot! lol. I have a pretty good understanding now about how to go about getting studio reflections and the ambient lighting if using a GI engine, since, well, My brother that's a photographer kinda made a personal studio out of the living room, lol. 3 flash umbrella lights, low and high key backdrops and floor covers, 2 tripods, 3 cameras(some micro cannon, a nikon d40 and d300), and LOTS OF WIRES! Oh yeah, and 2 300 watt lights, lol., He's using his windshield cover as a reflector for light too, since it's the shiny aluminium type covers, he was using tin foil before that.

Anyway sorry about that, just thought I'd rant about how my living room isn't a living room anymore.

I was just saying ;D

You after a specific toon style or vexel style?

What version of C4D are you using? I might see if I still have my material lying around.
